Announcing our €10 million investment into Grand Master Magnus Carlen's and Jan Henric Buettner's new venture to revolutionize the professional chess world with the launch of Freestyle Chess, a high stakes global tournament series featuring the world's 25 Super Grand Masters (ELO ratings above 2725). Freestyle Chess maintains the core elements of traditional chess but with a twist: the back row is randomized. This setup is called Fischer Random and adds new strategic elements and unpredictability to the game, fostering a fresh era of competitive play. The prize funding for the tournaments has been set to $750,000 for each of the first three events, and $1 million for every tournament thereafter. Harley Miller, CEO and Managing Partner of Left Lane Capital, remarked, "Any time you have the best athletes in the world competing at the absolute highest standard of play, coupled with more avant garde storytelling and showmanship, you inherently will build something of great consequence. Freestyle Chess has the potential to become a mainstream sporting spectacle, akin to Formula 1, or ATP Tennis." https://lnkd.in/g5BAEgsi

League One Volleyball scores big! Our portfolio company just landed a major multiyear partnership with Adidas. The deal makes Adidas the official outfitter for LOVB's new professional women's volleyball league, launching in November across six U.S. markets. Adidas will also outfit select LOVB junior clubs this year, expanding to all of LOVB's 14,000+ youth athletes across 22 states in the coming years. The two will collaborate on re-envisioning volleyball uniforms and footwear tailored specifically for female athletes. "We were looking for a partner that shared our vision and dream, and Adidas does that,” said Rosie Spaulding, COO of LOVB Pro. “We’re being intentional about how we build for the specific needs of women athletes, and they are keen to collaborate directly with our athletes to discern real performance insights [...]" We're excited to see LOVB's continued momentum in partnership with an iconic brand like Adidas. This is a major milestone for their mission to elevate volleyball and provide more opportunities for female players. https://lnkd.in/eeWgp5Cd

A round of applause to our portfolio company Talkiatry for raising $130 million in Series C funding led by Andreessen Horowitz! This is a testament to Talkiatry's approach to providing high-quality, in-network psychiatric care. With Americans struggling to access affordable, effective mental health treatment, Talkiatry is paving the way by partnering with major health insurers. In just a few years, they've conducted over 1 million patient visits across 43 states, tackling the two biggest issues in mental health: accessibility for patients and reducing healthcare payer costs. Kudos to Robert K., Georgia Gaveras, DO and the whole Talkiatry team - the future of behavioral healthcare is looking brighter! https://lnkd.in/epdrcj-W
