"At ten years old, I was diagnosed with two liver diseases, Autoimmune hepatitis and primary sclerosing cholangitis. After years of ups and downs with my health, I ended up in the hospital very sick in November of 2022. During that time, I was evaluated for a liver transplant. While on the list for a transplant, my older brother Aidan made the decision to look into being a living donor. After looking into the benefits of living donation, Aidan donated a portion of his liver to me. Aidan went through the testing, and we discovered we were a match! On July 17, 2023, we both went into surgery. In the days following, neither of us had any complications, and we were on the road to recovery. Just five weeks after the transplant, Aidan felt good enough to get back on his bike. We are now nine months post-transplant, and we are both doing great! Aidan is living a full and active life, cycling and working. I am getting back into the swing of things as well. My liver transplant has been such a gift, and I am so incredibly thankful to my brother." 💙💚 Thank you to Isabel for sharing her story with us! #DonateLife #LiverMonth

September is National DMV Appreciation Month! 💙💚🚗 National DMV Appreciation Month recognizes the vital role of DMVs and Driver License Partners (DLPs) in saving and healing lives. DMV staff ask customers the donor registration question every day. Our DMV partners are the people on the front lines of service who have helped more than 165 million people across the country register their decision to be a deceased organ, eye and tissue donor. Join us in thanking our DMV partners for their incredible work saving lives through donation and transplantation!

"Receiving my 2 livers has helped me be the best daughter I can be to my amazing mom. I always find time to volunteer and share my story with people going through the same issues as I have. I wanted to stay alive and well to continue pursuing my career as a middle school teacher. Teaching is my passion, and I need to stay around as long as possible to impart knowledge to the adolescents in the inner city that I grew up in. Of course, living with transplantation isn’t easy, but I do all I can to stay strong. Taking care of my transplant allows me to make a conscious effort to stay healthy. A balanced diet of fruits, vegetables, and lean proteins takes up most of my diet. Proper rest, along with balancing stress, helps me to be at my optimal best. Weight training, hiking, walking, and yoga help keep my body strong to keep up with my active lifestyle. My faith also helps me to stay grounded and tackle any obstacles along my way. I hope I have been and will continue to be a positive role model for anyone undergoing organ transplantation. I want people to know, especially young minority women, that life can and will go on after double transplantation. Like I never thought I would be able to do, one can lead a fulfilling, complete, and well-rounded life after having not 1 but 2 liver transplants." – Velicia 💙💚 #DonateLife #NMDAM2024

Adriana is a Donate Life Ambassador and recent kidney recipient. She is a staunch advocate for donation and has been able to share her experiences with the hopes of bringing greater awareness to the topic of organ, eye and tissue donation. Before receiving a kidney transplant, Adriana had been on dialysis since 2015 due to her diagnosis of Polycystic Kidney Disease and was active on the waiting list until 2022, when she received devastating news–her heart function had declined, and she was no longer a candidate for transplantation. She did not let this deter her, and with her new prognosis, she committed herself to the simple yet challenging goal of strengthening her heart. Within a year, she was able to get her heart health back to the point where she could be listed on the transplant waiting list again and received the lifesaving call in December of 2023. She continues to live and honor her donor every day. 💙💚 #NMDAM2024 #DonateLife Thank you to @DonorNetworkWest for sharing this story!
