Our laboratory team is indispensable; their hard work ensures we can honor the gift of life. At a recent Association for Diagnostics & Laboratory Medicine conference, STA’s Director of Laboratory Services, Selena Warden joined representatives from Gift of Hope Organ & Tissue Donor Network and Mid-America Transplant to present on the remarkable role our clinical labs play in the organ donation and transplantation process. Thank you to our incredible lab team for all you do to advance our mission and serving as a resource for others to learn from!

Thank you KVIA-TV and Adrian Ochoa for joining us at Donate Life Night with the El Paso Chihuahuas! He spoke with the family of Kris Shull, a heroic organ and tissue donor who saved three lives and healed many more. A photo of Adrian’s nephew, Rene Jr., was also on display throughout the evening as we celebrated the gift of life.

As we celebrate STA’s 50th anniversary, we are looking back each month to remember special moments in time!  In 2007, STA recovered its first life-saving organ from a donation after cardiac death (DCD) donor hero. That year, Dr. Steven Almond performed Driscoll Children's Hospital's first kidney transplant! As part of our Student Residency Program, students learned more about STA's mission and created awareness campaigns about the gift of donation and transplantation. The support of our west Texas community never ceases to amaze us! ⚾ 🧢 Last week, we proudly teamed up with the El Paso Chihuahuas to host Donate Life Night, celebrating the gift of organ, eye and tissue donation. Kate Flannery (that’s right – the one and only Meredith from the Office) even joined in on the fun! A special ceremonial first pitch was thrown by the family of Kristopher Shull, a heroic organ and tissue donor who saved three lives and healed many others. 10-year-old Ryder is full of energy and life again since receiving his double lung transplant! After turning one, he caught multiple simultaneous infections which caused acute respiratory failure. His lungs continued to worsen to the point where he struggled to walk, even with oxygen assistance. Ryder waited 169 days for his gift of life and now that he has received it, he looks forward to playing basketball again once he is fully recovered! 🏀 Thank you to KDFW-TV FOX 4 Dallas-Fort Worth for sharing his incredible story of strength and bravery.
