#ProBono makes a difference in the lives of New Yorkers. Through our partnership with Akin Pro Bono, a Bronx mother and her son are able to stay in their home of 14 years after a successful one-shot deal application for $14,000 helped stop an eviction.
D.S., a single mother living in the Bronx, was facing eviction after struggling to pay rent. She had lived in her apartment for over 14 years, working as a school bus matron. Her son, a student at Bronx Community College, recently took a part-time job to help make ends meet. Despite their efforts, they fell behind in rent. New York corporate attorney John Loubriel helped D.S. apply for a “One Shot Deal” emergency assistance grant from New York City, which provides one-time financial aid for residents facing eviction due to rental arrears. John worked closely with D.S. to draft her application and collect and organize the supporting documents. Her successful application covered her arrears of $14,000 and allowed D.S. and her son to remain in their home. Thanks to the legal support provided by John and Legal Services NYC, D.S. and her son are free from the threat of homelessness. #ProBono #ThisWeekinProBono #Benefits
