Happy Boss's Day to our CEO, Birgitta Damon. An example of how it should be. She knows and understands every facet of our agency, but she hires people she trusts and lets us do our jobs. She is not afraid to say when she's wrong, and is always working to improve on her own skills. She never hesitates to roll up her sleeves and work hands on. Oh, and thank you comes easily, we feel valued. She is a strong leader, with the fight she needs to help our community thrive. Today, we say thank you! Photo: Anna Wistran Wolfe

About us
Since 1965 LEO has worked to alleviate the immediate impact of poverty while providing pathways to economic stability for individuals, families, and for the strength of the community of Lynn and its surrounding towns. We have grown to serve over 7,000 people with low incomes annually, and operate child care from birth to five at four locations, and with a home visiting program for new families. LEO child care programs use a two-generation approach by by building on the skills and resources of parents and families. We leverage our own internal departments as a community action agency to provide fuel assistance, home weatherization and energy conservation, and by facilitating access to other local resources to meet basic needs beyond Head Start early childcare. A breadth of health, nutrition, parent education, English literacy, and career programming for family well-being and self-sufficiency is included in enrollment. Family case managers monitor and facilitate connection and use of available community services. Children are taught by qualified staff using research-based, age appropriate Office of Head Start endorsed curricula and include individualized plans for school readiness, health and nutrition. We do not shy away from difficult cases. In fact, we prioritize the enrollment of children who are homeless, in foster care, or who have developmental delays and disabilities. Accolades and Accreditations: Our child care programs are accredited by NAEYC, the National Association for the Education of Young Children. In addition, our Commercial Street Head Start site earned a QRIS (Quality Rating Improvement Status) level 3 status from MA Dept of Early Education & Care, which has been earned by less than 6% of all child care sites evaluated in Massachusetts.

GIVING TO THE GIVERS: We sent the "A-TEAM" to volunteer for Cradles to Crayons Massachusetts at their partner appreciation event. We loved getting our hands into the bins to support an organization who lifts up our own community time and again. We'll definitely be back! A little hard work never hurt a LEO! #communityofcare ☮️♥️

Marisa began her career with LEO in August of 2023. Happy 1st Anniversary! She holds a Master's in Education. Marisa works as Coach/Mentor for our education staff. She has dedicated herself as a resource for our educators, encouraging them to reach their full potential, while continuing to succeed personally through her own professional development. She has improved everyday school readiness and classroom management skills through visual materials, and by leading professional development, all while obtaining new high level certifications and trainings herself. LEO’s school readiness data showed progress each assessment period this year. We so are proud to have her on our team! This is the very best of our model; bring something to better the team, while building your own toolbox. If this sounds good to you, check out our website for openings: https://lnkd.in/eMFvSxMm
