Our Community Development Lending Vice President Johanna Stone and Credit Analyst Osarumen Edosomwan recently attended the ribbon cutting of E3 Development LLC’s redevelopment of 31 Tufts Street in Somerville. Eastern serves as the lead lender of the project, which will create affordable rental housing units and Leonard Grimes Park, a new public space to serve the community. Leaders from area organizations, including the Mayor of Somerville Katjana Ballantyne and the project developer Eliza Datta participated in the official ribbon cutting. Congratulations to Eastern’s CDL team!

A new study from MassINC and the UMass Donahue Institute, sponsored by Eastern Bank Foundation, shows 10% of working-age residents across Massachusetts - and 20% of workers in Gateway Cities - have limited English proficiency. This curbs equitable employment access and economic inclusion & impedes growth for MA businesses who continue to experience labor shortages. A persistent lack of ESOL services is an obstacle that we can do something about by bringing together non-profits, for-profits, and government change makers to devise a strategy and apply resources. https://bit.ly/3WkeNI6
