Chief Growth Officer Hilary Doe made the trek to Cambridge, Massachusetts to speak at EmTech MIT Technology Review 2024 where she discussed how states and organizations can learn from Michigan’s approach to public-private partnerships, actionable climate plans and business-government alignment in the clean energy transition. Young talent want great places, great opportunities and welcoming communities where they choose to call home, which is why we teamed up with City Institute to take students on field trips to cities across the state, showcasing our diverse and awe-inspiring communities. First up was #Detroit - where students got to experience all the city has to offer and what makes it a great place call home. They toured the Book Tower in downtown and soaked up the skyline from the rooftop. They imagined their trips to work at innovation hubs like Newlab and the historic Michigan Central as well as weekend concerts and shopping at Third Man Records and City Bird. They also heard from Chief Growth Officer Hilary Doe who spoke about her experience living in other major cities and why she "boomeranged" to Detroit, not because of nostalgia but because she's betting on Michigan's future. Congrats to the winner of the state’s inaugural PitchMI competiton, Civilized Cycles! 🎉 Gov. Gretchen Whitmer presented them with a $100,000 check from the Michigan Growth Office during the state’s first Mobility Conference. Civilized Cycles, based out of Detroit, Michigan, designs and manufactures ultra-light electric vehicles. Their flagship product, the Semi-Trike, offers the cargo capacity of a van at a fraction of the cost. This alternative transportation method is a more affordable, practical and sustainable alternative for moving large amounts of cargo short distances. And thanks to our other finalists Boaz Bikes, GEKOT Robotics Inc. and Voltaic Marine for leaving it all on the stage! #letsgrowmichigan #pitchmi

Today, Michigan’s Growth Office announced the recipients and programs selected to receive grant funding through the first round of Make MI Home, the office’s first-of-its-kind regional talent retention and attraction pilot program. The office is awarding $661,250 to five consortiums across the state whose innovative programs will help kick-start population growth by focusing on either retaining current residents or attracting new ones to make Michigan their home. Recipients include: - Southwest Michigan Regional Chamber - Grand Valley State University - Middle Michigan Development Corporation - TechTown Detroit, Wayne State University's Entrepreneurship Hub - West Michigan Works! Yesterday, during the closing ceremony of Michigan Tech Week, Chief Growth Officer Hilary Doe announced the four finalists selected to take the stage at PitchMI, a shark tank-style pitch competition focused on mobility. The finalists include Boaz Bikes, Civilized Cycles, GEKOT Robotics Inc. and Voltaic Marine. The PitchMI competition is scheduled to take place Thursday, October 24 at 2:30 p.m. during the Office of Future Mobility and Electrification’s inaugural MI Future Mobility Conference at Newlab in Detroit. The finalists will have the opportunity to share their innovative ideas with the world, with the winning startup selected to receive a $100,000 investment by the Growth Office. #LetsGrowMichigan #PitchMI
