    We did it! #Intuitconnect2024 was all that we hoped it would be. We got deep into automation and AI strategies with Dan Luthi and 💡 Korey Cournoyer, came back home to start process mapping and building new work streams. Marcus Dillon, CPA and Rachel Dillon shared their strategy for optimizing capacity by evaluating your clients and focusing teams on the clients that really fit.     You’re never alone in your niche. Which is the best reason to always try new things as a business owner. When I started Creative Business Inc. I was working almost exclusively with fine artists. But ten years in, it felt like everybody’s shingle said “bookkeeping for artists” or “financial advice for artists and creatives”. There was even a whole trade show about the business of art. Over time, we grew to support architecture firms, ecommerce companies and other “makers” too. But we didn’t just start working with complementary industries that service creative business. We started applying learnings from one industry to the others, and experimenting with different ways of supporting everyone. Three great ways to think beyond your niche to stand out: 1️⃣ Ask your team: Based on your day-to-day work with our clients, what else do you think we can do to support them? 2️⃣ Ask your clients: Are there any services we don’t offer right now that you wish we would? 3️⃣ Ask both of those groups: What was the last great customer experience you had in your personal life? What made it great? Here’s where questions like this and a spirit of curiosity and experimentation have led my company: Before 2020, we were already doing a lot of CFO advisory and HR work for our clients within our existing scopes. But then the pandemic hit. There was a huge surge in requests for HR services to deal with the complexity of employees working remotely across states. We started bringing our HR consultants in to talk with our clients and answer their questions. This turned out to be exactly what they needed and this offering of ours grew significantly. Then we started to notice that more and more companies were taking advantage of our CFO support. So we decided to separate out CFO advisory work and offer it a la carte as an add-on to the day-to-day controller and accounting work we were already doing. Our bookkeepers and client managers started offering that service to clients and we were surprised to see how much appetite there was for that just within our existing book of business. All of this happened because we committed to following demand, being flexible and helping our clients with the support they need most in the moment I’d love to hear from others who found ways to differentiate themselves within their niche.
