Seema’s career in life sciences is significant in helping drive equity & access to all. From her early work with the NIH and the prestigious Whitehead Institute to her leadership roles at Johnson & Johnson, Seema Kumar has been a driving force in championing science, advancing scientific innovation and creating impactful global health initiatives. During her time at J&J, she played a pivotal role in launching programs that fostered collaboration between science, government, and public health sectors, all with the aim of improving health equity and access to healthcare for underserved communities. Now, as CEO of Cure., Seema continues to build on that legacy, by driving collaboration and convening leaders who are creating life-changing solutions in healthcare. Through her new role on the board of Life Science Cares New York, she is eager to work with NYC's dynamic life sciences community to address poverty and improve the lives of children in the city. Please join us in welcoming Seema to this impactful organization! #LIfeScienceCaresNY #Cure

Last week, Life Science Cares New York Board Members had the incredible opportunity to dive into Schrödinger's innovative platform and programs. Schrödinger is pushing the boundaries of computational chemistry, molecular modeling, and drug discovery and materials design. From their state-of-the-art platform that helps scientists model complex molecular structures to the impact they’re making on drug discovery programs, we left inspired by their contributions to the field. Unhoused youth graduate at a significantly lower rate than students with stable housing as the barriers to education are often insurmountable. The Monarch School Project has been on a mission to remove these obstacles and provide a sense of belonging for thousands of unhoused youth and their families in San Diego since 1987. In this month’s episode of our podcast #MovingForwardGivingBack, Monarch’s President and CEO, Afira Arrastia-DeVries, sits down with LSC’s San Diego Executive Director Alicia Quinn Kitagawa to discuss Monarch’s unique community school model, which provides a range of vital services beyond just academics - from mental health support to basic needs assistance. This can’t-miss discussion also touches on the importance of dignity, respect and asset-based approaches when working with vulnerable populations, as well as Monarch’s new training program that aims to equip educators across California with the trauma-informed and restorative practices.
