Offers paid summer internships in the life science industry, for college students from under-resourced backgrounds.

About us

Project Onramp creates access to paid summer internships for undergraduate students who are from low-income backgrounds -- helping to bridge the opportunity gap for these promising young people. The program operates in five cities: Boston, the Bay Area (CA), San Diego, Philadelphia and NY. We are a program of Life Science Cares. Project Onramp host companies commit or create internships for these high-performing students. You can set aside an established internship for Onramp candidates, or create new positions for Onramp to fill. Internships are not limited to STEM-related roles—we can match you with talented candidates with interest in business development, administration, HR, finance, IT, marketing, etc. We will send you several resumes for each internship position, and you will use your existing review and hiring processes to choose the student who best fits your needs. There is no cost to the program, other than the requirement to offer a paid summer internship. These internships are transformational for students, who gain both technical and other skills throughout the summer. Project Onramp provides professional development workshops, mentorship and industry networking opportunities for undergraduates who are part of the program.

International Development Studies @ UCLA | Sports & Entertainment Marketing | Aspiring Business Owner

Over the summer, I had the amazing opportunity to complete a 10-week internship with Acadia Pharmaceuticals Inc.. With an extraordinary team supporting me along the way, I was able to successfully contribute to several marketing projects. As the Talent Development and Engagement intern I worked specifically with organizing, promoting, and executing employee events. I was able to learn more about the behind-the-scenes of the corporate industry and employment engagement, while also applying my marketing skills and creative ideas to the company's success. It was undoubtedly one of the best experiences in my life. I instantly fell in love with the environment and quickly became a family with the rest of the interns. I am beyond grateful for this opportunity and all the amazing people I met along the way. I am extremely grateful to my manager Kristen Hoskins and my team: Toni Russo, Emily Crump, Rochelle Proud, and Monica Spacciapolli for entrusting me with meaningful responsibilities. Can’t wait to see what’s next!

This week's Board of Advisor Spotlight is Laure Escoubet of Light Horse Therapeutics. This year, Laure has led by example by engaging her employees through volunteerism for our summer food drive to address the summer food gap for students in San Diego and hosting a Project Onramp intern supporting their drug discovery team. Thank you, Laure, for being a part of the Board of Advisors!

Bioengineering: Biotechnology '26 @ UC San Diego | Jacobs + Regents Scholar | WE24 | prev. Quality Systems Intern @ Fate Therapeutics

Last week, I wrapped up my 13-week internship as a Quality Systems Intern at Fate Therapeutics Inc.! Initially planned as a 10-week program, I’m incredibly grateful that my internship was extended, granting me even more time to contribute to the Quality Assurance and Regulatory Affairs team and gain further exposure to the fast-paced innovation in the biotech industry. This experience allowed me to work directly with quality system software, as well as gain knowledge of manufacturing processes and regulatory standards that are foundational across biotech and pharmaceutical fields. One of the major highlights from this program was spearheading a transformative project to restructure Veeva software management for OJTs, ILTs, and SOPs across manufacturing, clinical, and R&D teams, leading to significant improvements in interdepartmental efficiency and collaboration. I am incredibly thankful for this opportunity and would like to give a special thanks to my manager and mentor, Megan Sterling, for her unwavering support, guidance, and incredible leadership throughout my internship. I also want to express my gratitude to the QA team — Nicole Osterhout, Ezekiel Rena, and Kimberly Dayot Fernandez — for their support and guidance, and to Gabriela Velasquez and Amanda Chhav from HR for creating this fantastic internship program! A big thank you as well to Project Onramp for helping students access these unique opportunities within biotech. Thank you, Fate Therapeutics Inc. for an amazing and extended summer! I have learned so much from this experience and am excited to utilize my new skillset in my third year of studies in Bioengineering: Biotechnology at UC San Diego Jacobs School of Engineering!

Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Student at UC Davis | Previous Intern @ Hologic

Hi everyone! Today I finished my 12-week internship Hologic, Inc. as a Metrology Intern in the Diagnostics Division in San Diego. With this being my first internship, I had an amazing experience. I learned so much and I wished I could stay longer. During my time at Hologic, I supported the Metrology Team with monthly calibrations on equipment such as pH meters, torque testers, thermometers etc. Doing this required technical skills, understanding of lab protocol and good documentation practices to effectively calibrate these tools for the success of production. For my intern project, I was tasked with updating the Agile Product Lifecycle Management System EQP workflow for New Equipment. With such a massive change that effects multiple departments, I worked with GCD-OS along with Metrology and QE to develop a future state for this new workflow that streamlines the process of new equipment getting introduced into Agile. We conducted a Kaizen where we laid out a step by step plan on how to make this imperative change. I am grateful to Marc Lewis, Emily Lambdin, and the rest of the Metrology team for their guidance and support throughout this experience. Thank you to Tracey Minutolo, and Carin Uriostigue-Polansky for teaching me the Kaizen tools that I will be able to take with me everywhere I go. I appreciate my Kaizen Team: Jose M., Brenda K., Daniel L., Robert C,. and Jazmin L., for sticking through with me to the end to get this project rolling. A special thank you to Elsa Quirarte Kingsbury and Jacquelyn Quezada for onboarding and working with all the interns to create an engaging summer for everyone. Finally thank you to Project Onramp and Access Youth Academy for sharing this amazing opportunity that I may have not been exposed to before. I learned how I can use my degree into a field that I didn't think had a need to Mechanical Engineers. It has opened my eyes to a world of possibilities that I am interested in exploring. Working for a company focused on women’s health has been an incredibly rewarding experience, and I’m thankful for the chance to contribute to this vital and unnoticed field. I look forward to applying these skills in future experiences and projects!

Project Onramp Manager at Life Science Cares Boston

As we wrap up another successful season of Project Onramp internships through Life Science Cares Boston, we couldn’t be prouder of the incredible work our 186 interns have accomplished this summer. 🎉 🎊   Last week, we had the pleasure of highlighting their hard work at our Internship Showcase. Interactive Media and Business Student at NYU Shanghai

I'm excited to dedicate my first LinkedIn post to my incredible internship experience at The Bowdoin Group. Over the past 8 weeks, being part of such an outstanding team has been an incredibly rewarding experience, and I'm so grateful for the opportunity. During my time at The Bowdoin Group, I had the opportunity to contribute to various aspects of the business, including data entry, marketing, business development research, sourcing, and accounting. I even got to conduct my own research on the impact of Al in the recruiting industry, which was very interesting! This role truly offered me a well-rounded, 360-degree view of the company. I'd like to give a special shoutout to my manager, Ariana Hegarty. Her mentorship was incredibly valuable; she provided continuous support and made an effort to check in regularly, ensuring I was learning and growing throughout the internship. I really could not have done it without her!✨ I also want to thank everyone at The Bowdoin Group who involved me in various projects and offered their support. My internship wouldn't have been complete without you all! Finally, a big thank you to Project Onramp for connecting me with The Bowdoin Group, which allowed me to gain insight into the life sciences industry. Additionally, the professional development sessions provided by Project Onramp were both helpful and insightful. Thank you all for making this summer so impactful and rewarding!❤️
