Sonoma Biotherapeutics has received a $45M payment from Regeneron Pharmaceuticals for meeting a significant milestone in its efforts to research, develop, and commercialize therapies for inflammatory bowel disease and other ailments. Sonoma is focused on treating autoimmune and inflammatory diseases in which a person’s immune system over-responds and attacks the wrong cells. This morning, Talus Bio, an Life Science Washington Institute WIN venture, announced $11.2M in venture capital funding to advance its drug discovery program for hard-to-treat diseases. The Seattle biotech’s platform brings biochemical analysis into living cells, allowing researchers to see how drugs interact with small proteins that turn genes on and off. Abnormal gene expression is a common point of origin of many diseases, including cancer.
