We partnered with 10,000 Women to dig deep into the document and expose its agenda to dismantle reproductive rights, abortion access, queer and trans rights, education, and more. https://lnkd.in/gFvgCn7c #ReproductiveRights #AbortionAcess #Education #Queer #Trans #Webinar #Partnership

Louisiana has one of the harshest abortion laws in the country. Due to its newness, confusing language, and criminal penalties, birthing people and doctors alike have suffered attempting to navigate the system. One woman, Kaitlyn Joshua, has been sharing the story of how not one but two Louisiana emergency rooms denied her care, forcing her to pass her miscarriage on her own without medical intervention. The circumstances of Kaitlyn's story are horrific and should have never been allowed to happen. But it was. Not only that, but the pain she endured has become common. This is not just a Louisiana story, but a story of women, girls, and birthing people across the country.   While we would not wish Kaitlyn's experience on anyone and are outraged that she had to experience it, we are proud of how she has leveraged her pain into power. Kaitlyn continues to raise her voice alongside Hadley Duval as reproductive rights activists fighting for access.   Glamour has named them Women of the Year, and we could not agree more. #WomenoftheYear #ReproductiveRights #ReproductiveJustice #AbortionAccess #Miscarriage #MiscarriageAwareness #Community #CommunityEngagement #Advocacy

The US is violating human rights. Abortion is either banned completely, heavily restricted to the earliest days of pregnancy, or under legal threat in at least 26 states in the US. 15 states have criminal penalties for patients and providers ranging from less than a year to potential life in prison. These bans and restrictions–which have extended to fertility treatments like IVF–violate human rights and are inconsistent with the US’s obligations under international human rights law. Not only are abortion restrictions violating human rights treaties, the systematic erosion of abortion rights is also out of step with the World Health Organization guidelines recommending abortion be fully decriminalized and all restrictions be removed. State, local, and municipal governments, as key components of the U.S. government,  play an important role in ensuring the U.S. upholds its human rights obligations Rep. Nikema Williams of Georgia introduced a human rights resolution in Congress commending state and local governments for championing reproductive rights as human rights. There are a growing number of state, local, and municipal governments in Texas, North Carolina, Maryland, Virginia, and Louisiana that have introduced legislation upholding human rights obligations under international human rights treaties. The initiatives to protect abortion as a human right  do not stop there. The Mayor of Mt. Rainier issued a proclamation declaring June 24, 2024, as ‘‘Reproductive Rights are Human Rights Day.” Champions in Louisiana introduced several bills to increase access to abortion, such as one which would have expanded the criminal definition of abortion to allow providers to more easily use the exceptions to provide life-saving care.  Together with our partners, we urge states and local governments across the US to enact similar legislation to protect and promote reproductive freedom. We will continue to work city by city, county by county, and state by state.  With each proclamation, resolution, ordinance, bill–we are growing something that will eventually take root and be stronger than what we had before. Anti-rights extremists have already overturned Roe v. Wade and they will not stop. Abortion bans and restrictions only put people’s lives at risk. We must keep working to protect our reproductive freedoms so that future generations don’t have fewer rights. Special thanks to Mandie Landry and TROY A. CARTER, Sr. who represented Louisiana during the human rights resolution on abortion press conference advocating that abortion be recognized as a human right. #Abortion #AbortionAccess #HumanRights #Advocacy #reproductivehealth #Reproductiverights #Reproductivejustice

We're expecting severe weather here in Louisiana with Tropical Storm Francine. The storm is predicted to become a Category 2 by the time it makes landfall early on Wednesday, September 11th. A state of emergency has been declared and we are encouraging all in the storm's path to prepare as soon and sufficiently as possible. Residents can visit the "Get a Gameplan" website to review storm updates, tips to prepare, and evacuation information. Don't be alarmed by Governor Landry's face on the homepage, the website is full of useful information and can help keep you and your loved ones safe. Please take care of yourselves; we look forward to connecting with everyone after this is over! https://lnkd.in/g4cw36je #HurricaneFrancince #Francine #Category2 #StormPrep

Founder + CEO @ Nest Health | Physician Executive, entrepreneur, mother, advocate. Working to transform healthcare.

“Why exactly is it that they don’t trust women?” A powerful question that VP Harris asked at the #DNC yesterday evening. Maternal and family health are taking the main stage in this presidential election. VP Harris and her campaign team have anchored their message on women’s rights, family and child health, and reproductive rights more than any candidate in history. The American health system is failing women…failing families. We’re treating individuals not as a family unit, not as whole people whose mental health, nutritional, and social health are inextricably linked, but as fragmented individuals and body parts. This broken system is leading to terrible health outcomes. The state of maternal, women and family health in Louisiana is abysmal. We rank 49 out of 50 on maternal mortality, morbidity, and in child well-being. We're also one of the 14 states where abortion has been criminalized – changing pregnancy care and worsening maternal care in the state. In March of this year Lift Louisiana released a report on the impacts of the overturn on women in our state: o    Unnecessary C-section rates are rising o    There’s a decline of prenatal visits – delaying routine care o    Miscarriage and ectopic pregnancy treatment is delayed by physicians who fear governmental retaliation   Families face so many barriers to take care of their healthcare – they can’t get time off of work, they don’t have a car, they’re single parents juggling multiple jobs…Nest Health is bringing comprehensive care directly to them in their home. We bring primary care, mental health care, check ups, sick visits, prenatal support and more directly to the comfort of their home and virtually, breaking down those barriers to care. There are solutions, solutions like Nest can no longer be overlooked. Our country’s families are on the line. This must be a part of the national conversation.

Honors Scholar at Tulane University | BA in Sociology and Gender and Sexuality Studies

As I embark on my senior year at Tulane University, I find myself reflecting on the incredible journey I’ve had so far, particularly the past two years working with Lift Louisiana. This experience has deeply shaped my passion for policy, legislative advocacy, state politics, and civic engagement. Through my work with Lift Louisiana, I’ve been deeply involved in advocating for reproductive rights and justice at the state level. This role has given me firsthand experience in the legislative process and taught me the critical importance of strategic advocacy in advancing policies that protect and empower communities. After wrapping up the legislative session this past summer, I had the opportunity to engage in various behind-the-scenes tasks that supported our advocacy efforts. From organizing essential data to tracking critical legislative activities, I gained valuable insights into the intricacies of policy work and its impact on our communities. This work reaffirmed my commitment to holding elected officials accountable and fostering an informed electorate. Thank you to everyone who has supported me along this journey. In particular, I express my deep gratitude to Michelle Erenberg, Alex Moody, and Clare Daniel for their invaluable mentorship. I would not be where or who I am today without it. I’m eager to see what this final year of undergrad holds and to continue working toward meaningful change in our community and envisioning a better, more just Louisiana for all people.
