🎙 Diving into Parenting and Healthcare Across Cultures! 🎙 I recently joined Jessica and Lauren on their wonderful podcast, The Little Brain Campaign, for a lively conversation about parenting, education, healthcare, and childcare across cultures. We explored how different environments shape the way we care for our families, and I shared my journey of growing up in Australia with Indonesian roots, and navigating childcare in the States for my child, drawing insights from my travels and work around the globe. Throughout my professional and personal life, I’ve witnessed the incredible impact of family-centered care. This journey fueled my passion for advocating for mothers and children. I spoke about my work with Nest Health in New Orleans, which practices a family-centered system of healthcare. I share why I believe this connection with the whole family is so important and the impact it can have. I also touched on my work with LearnToLive, the global healthcare organization I founded over a decade ago, which focuses on improving access to healthcare in remote communities. It was a meaningful, real conversation, and I’d love for you to listen in! Check out the episode "Education, Healthcare, and Childcare Oh My!" And while you’re there, tune in to their other great episodes. #TheLittleBrainCampaign #PodcastEpisode #NestHealth #MaternalHealthcare #LearnToLiveGlobal #GlobalPerspectives #Healthcare #HealthcareAdvocacy

Reflecting on the Health Management Associates conference earlier this week - it is always reassuring to see so many smart, passionate people working to make healthcare better for everyone. Here are some key things that I will continue to come back to: 👉 Population health works. 📈✅ It's simple, but can easily get lost in the details. Darshak Sanghavi shared about the influence that can happen when we come together to tackle an issue. 👉 Hearing from Neil Batlivala, Jami Snyder, and Amon Anderson about how to think about approaching plans with a solution. This session was a great combo of tactical things to do (ask them "how can I be of service") in addition to deeply considering the bigger strategic picture (understand their priorities and demonstrate alignment). 🤝 👉 Bring your employees into conversations on community health needs. 🗣️🗣️🗣️ I loved this and the discussion on the incredible insights our own team members can contribute. This conversation was part of the important Raising the Bar work being done by the RWJF. Chara Stewart Abrams, MPH, Aingyea Fraser, MPA, Dr. Brian Patel 👉 Finally, I couldn't take notes fast enough while Dr. Lakshmi E. was presenting: engage patients where they are (laundromats), include members on quality boards, getting good contact information, interoperability, etc! 📳🛜 I left feeling inspired and confident of the path we are on at Nest Health. It is very hard work, but we really are addressing some of the biggest challenges out there. #HMACon2024

Founder + CEO @ Nest Health | Physician Executive, entrepreneur, mother, advocate. Working to transform healthcare.

We continue to see behavioral health utilization increasing — this report shows a staggering 40% increase in 2023 compared to 2019, with signs of rate acceleration. Yet, primary care utilization is lower than it was pre-pandemic. These opposing trends should concern all healthcare leaders, policymakers, innovators, and investors. ❗ Physical health cannot be separated from mental health — the two are inextricably linked. Solutions must address whole people, physical and mental, to be effective. ❗12% of ED visits are for mental health reasons — and these visits are incredibly costly and ineffective for long-term health and stability. ❗Half of Americans have had or know someone who who has had to drive more than an hour to seek treatment (and that's after months-long waitlists...) As the only value-based care provider actually built for families, Nest Health is: ✨ Providing at-home and virtual medical, mental, nutritional, and social care ✨ Connecting families to a Nest licensed mental health clinician (with a <1 day wait) ✨ Breaking down massive barriers keeping families from care like cost, transportation, and language ✨ Improving health outcomes and reducing unnecessary emergency room utilization https://lnkd.in/guCd7by2

Behavioral Health Utilization Skyrocketed 40% in 2023 Compared to Pre-COVID Levels

It's #ChildHealthDay today. At Nest, we deeply believe that supporting health at the earliest stages in life is the key to building healthier future generations. It is unacceptable that so many children in our country are not receiving the care they need to thrive. Care that includes parents and caregivers every step of the way. Fundamental medical care like well visits, but also mental health check-ins to address the whole person. Care designed for the whole family as a unit. Care with no barriers making it easy for families to stay healthy. Care that addresses generational health. This is what every child deserves. This is what we're building at Nest. ✨

This year marks 8 years since the founding of 8VC, so it felt appropriate to put together a little compilation of the community we've been building. Through 8VC Build, we've incubated and spun out over 25 companies since 2016, which have raised billions in follow-on investments and created several unicorns including two of the fastest growing defense companies. We've launched our Campus Associates program in the top universities across the country, our Fellowship program to activate top young talent, and recurring community builder events in partnership with Palantir Technologies, Ramp Vercel and others like Chat8VC (Engineering/AI), Pixel8 (Design), and 8by8VC (CTO dinners). Thank you to all who continue to engage with our community to build the next generation of transformational companies. And a special thanks to our founders featured here: Jacob M./Opto Investments, Andy Lowery/Epirus, Palmer Luckey/Anduril Industries, Zachary Bookman/OpenGov Inc., Jin W. This morning during our New Orleans weekly clinical team meeting, Round Robin, we took a few moments to recognize Infant and Pregnancy Loss Awareness Month. Louisiana, Nest's home base and first market, unfortunately leads the nation in the worst maternity and infant health outcomes. We know that so many of these losses are preventable with better quality care. As our Louisiana General Manager Bernadette Vincent shared, "this is the kind of leader we don't want to be." For this #InfancyandPregnancyLossAwarenessMonth, we're sharing a few words of guidance from our very own mental health specialist, Patrice Hammond, LCSW. "Infancy and pregnancy loss in an incredibly painful and overwhelming journey. Allow yourself to grieve. Feelings of sadness, anger, confusion, and numbness are all natural responses. Seek emotional support. Consider talking to a therapist or joining an online support group. Explore ways to memorialize your child. This can be done through a personal ritual, creating memory box, or participating in a remembrance event. Know that healing takes time. Be patient with yourself as there is no set time for when you "should" feel better." Our hearts and thoughts are with those who are suffering from this loss.

Being able to text our patients is a critical piece of our model that we committed to early on. We knew it would be important to help with scheduling, clinical care, etc, but it's messages like this that make it especially fun! 💙💙

Nothing beats a happy patient. Shout out to our New Orleans team who makes our patients feel comfortable and heard every day in every interaction. P.S., we agree: Doctor Brown is the best.
