💖During Breast Cancer Awareness Month, our team member Valeria shares an important reminder about early detection: “As someone who has experienced breast cancer, I know firsthand how vital it is to prioritize prevention. Hispanic women have a 1 in 8 chance of developing breast cancer, but many aren’t getting regular mammograms. Knowing our bodies and getting screened, starting at 40, can make all the difference. Early detection saves lives.” Globally, the World Health Organization’s Global Breast Cancer Initiative (GBCI) is working to bridge the gap in breast cancer outcomes. GBCI aims to reduce breast cancer by 2.5% per year through better access to early detection, timely diagnosis, and comprehensive care. This initiative could save 2.5 million lives over 20 years. Our team recently had the privilege of training first-year audiology students at Pacific University! 🎓 Daniel Halberg and Valeria Vail, both Certified Medical Interpreters for Spanish and LIA Trainers, led an engaging demonstration of real-time Spanish interpretation. Their reenactment not only brought some laughs but also drove home the importance of accessible language and successful communication with interpreters. Leah Owens, our National Account Executive, joined in as an ASL interpreter, showcasing virtual sign language interpretation in real time. This hands-on approach gave students valuable insights into the different modes of interpretation they may encounter in their careers. Community Services Network Nonprofit Connect: Building Partnerships for Brighter Futures 🌟 Valeria Vail and Guillermo Ortiz-Marchena had the honor of representing Linguava at the 4th Annual Social Service Networking Extravaganza hosted by the Community Services Network! 🎉 Valeria shared her thoughts: "It was a great event and very busy. The event was inspiring, bringing together numerous nonprofit organizations for valuable networking opportunities. It truly opened my eyes to the dedication and hard work everyone is putting in to create brighter futures for those they come in contact with." This event was a fantastic opportunity for us to connect with other service providers in the Portland area. From social workers to nonprofit employees, it was a space for education, collaboration, and potential partnerships. As a language service provider, we're excited to continue building relationships with organizations that share our commitment to empowering communities. This also opened doors for potential students for our Linguava Interpreter Academy and new medical interpreters to join our team!
