Link House Adult Outpatient Therapy Client: "It's easy to sum up my year. When I started therapy, I was at my lowest, I had dark thoughts, I wasn't working, I didn't feel hopeful about my future. It was hard to live daily. Then I started to gain confidence, got on medication, and got a job. I found tools for my mental health and trauma and learned to talk through things. I found my voice, and strength I didn't know was within me and I'm advocating for myself. Every day I feel like a different person, I see the person everyone else used to tell me they saw."

According to this STAT article, as scientific information emerges, experts are becoming increasingly concerned about Americans’ drinking patterns. The once-popular idea that alcohol might be good for health has been tempered by years of research findings that suggest the opposite. The potential benefits of alcohol consumption are outweighed by an increased risk of many other conditions. While alcohol-related deaths are on the rise, experts are particularly concerned by an increase among young people and women. According to CDC data, one in five deaths — about 45,000 deaths per year — among people 20 to 49 years old is attributable to alcohol. And, binge drinking is responsible for more than 40% of deaths. If you or anyone you love needs support dealing with alcohol and drug use, please contact the Link House Center for Behavioral Health (CBH) in Amesbury to make an appointment with a counselor: 978-834-6583 orCBH@linkhouseinc.org. #alcoholusedisorder #alcoholdeaths #alcoholrisks #healthyliving #health
By the numbers: America’s alcohol-related health problems are rising fast

Thank you to the Pentucket Bank Charitable Foundation and Essex County Outreach for supporting the summer horsemanship program for kids in our outpatient therapy program, CATCH (Children And Teen Center for Help). These grants will allow CATCH to partner with Fair Winds Farm in West Newbury to promote self-awareness, physical activity, and social interaction through the Resilience Reins Equine Assisted Learning (EAL) program for low-income youth. Horses will be partnered with youth with a history of academic and behavioral health challenges who have experienced some significant trauma in sessions that focus on social and emotional growth, resilience, and overall well-being. Thank you so much for your financial support, which will enable Link House to strengthen summer support for at-risk youth in our community!

According to this study published in the journal Behavioral Sciences, if someone is going to begin drinking at some point in their life, the later they do it, the better. Explaining to children the dangers and risks of alcohol consumption can influence positive outcomes. Parents using an "authoritarian style" don't operate from a place of fear but explain to children why they set the boundaries they do. Click below to read the full article. 👇
