We make durable, sustainable, & versatile clothing that encourages you to wear it longer and spend more time outdoors.

About us

LIVSN uses natural and technical materials to create sustainable, high-quality outdoor clothing with classic styling and a modern fit. Our passion is for the outdoors and our interest is in high quality clothing. We love finding good fabric and admiring the hand, the weight, and the texture. The story of the material and what it can do inspires us to create clothing as dynamic as the fabric. The name LIVSN comes from the Swedish word "livsnjutare," which roughly translates to "one who loves life deeply; an enjoyer of life." We know we won't regret more time outside - or with friends - or with family. Abraham Maslow's famous Hierarchy of Needs lists clothing among the physiological needs to meet before moving on towards the ultimate goal of self-actualization. If clothing is something that we must have, then we believe it should perform well, look good, be ethically made, environmentally friendly - and it should last. We design our clothing to be dynamic, made with naturally technical materials, and have a subdued style. We're not out to make the "best" shirt or the "most advanced" jacket in the world. We want to make good clothing, we want to make it with tried and true methods, and we want to make it with high quality materials and modern fits. We'll be officially launching in late 2018, but will have plenty to share before then. Please follow along on our journey. Introducing our new LIVSN Supplier Code of Conduct Apparel supply chains are complex and often opaque. To combat this, our Supplier Code of Conduct lays out our expectations for every supplier who is part of our supply chain. These expectations include things like wages, workers' rights, working conditions, chemical usage, and environmental reporting and responsibility. Although many of these requirements are not new to us, they are newly codified, allowing us to more effectively open up conversations with new and existing suppliers. This is a foundational document that we'll continue to expand on as we partner with suppliers to continually make products and systems that maximize function and minimize harm to people and planet. To learn more, check out our latest blog post, find the whole document linked on our sustainability page, or stay tuned here as we dive deeper over the next few weeks. Birds of a feather flock together, and in this case the @outdoormediasummit team will not have a hard time finding each other. They needed a uniform for their staff that would handle outdoor events from 40 degrees to 75 degrees, indoor conference sessions, and evening social events all while looking at home in the outdoor industry and professional. Right up LIVSN's alley, we supplied their team uniform this year and as the event continues in full swing, our brains are full and our hearts are fuller. Are you part of a crew who wants to look uniform, but timeless? Reach out to us! Top: Keystone Long Sleeve in Charcoal Outerwear: Forager Jacket Pant: Flex Canvas Pant V3 in Caramel

"Sometimes, climbing isn't about climbing at all. The northern lights dash above our heads in ribbons of green, turquoise, pink, purple, and fuschia. The pinholes in the firmament dazzle and twinkle, a fiery tail rockets across the sky, a shooting star, existing only for a moment. The only sign of civilization high on this mountain’s flank are the satellites as they arc across the sky.  Dancing among the constellations. Eight of us, bivouacked in our stone rookeries are at once like the satellites in the sky, wholly alien to that which surrounds us, yet absolutely home. It is this play of Man and Nature, this cosmic masquerade that we as “I” have been struggling with since the birth of time, since the birth of “I”. What is our place? Our role? Our home? What is this “I” that knows me? It’s here, in these moments when climbing isn’t actually about climbing anymore. When we’ve moved past “escape” or “challenge” or “adventure” and into the realm of spirit and soul. Climbing allows me to feel and to touch what is real, to live in the moment. To exist, to fear, to love, to thrive. So instead of drifting along lost in symbolism, simulation or artifice, I know viscerally in an embodied way that I am real, I am fragile yet strong, I am alone yet connected, I am different yet ultimately the same. It shows me time and time again the earth, the stars, the waxing and waning of the moon, and the coming and goings of the sun. It calibrates my soul with the diurnal shifts of night and day rather than the endless ticking and tocking of our mechanized clocks. This transformative process of climbing has allowed me to align “how the world is” with “why the world does” and amongst steep cliffs and heather meadows, falling seracs and shouts of “on belay” and “off belay”, the mountains have shown me that we are all one Happening - a single beautifully complex process that started some 14 billion years ago. Sometimes, climbing isn’t about the climbing."   𝘞𝘳𝘪𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘯 𝘣𝘺 𝘓𝘐𝘝𝘚𝘕 𝘣𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘢𝘮𝘣𝘢𝘴𝘴𝘢𝘥𝘰𝘳 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘢𝘵𝘩𝘭𝘦𝘵𝘦 George Bieker. 𝘋𝘰 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘮𝘶𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘴? 𝘚𝘦𝘯𝘥 '𝘦𝘮 𝘵𝘰 Brian O'Dea at 𝘣𝘳𝘪𝘢𝘯@𝘭𝘪𝘷𝘴𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘴𝘪𝘨𝘯𝘴.𝘤𝘰𝘮.

What kind of clothes washer are you? Do you throw the laundry pile all in together and let fate and the spin cycle sort them out, or do you follow slow, specific rituals for each piece? There’s no wrong answer here, but these thousands of small choices that accumulate through daily life cause interesting personal and widespread effects. With ethical apparel, most of the attention is focused on selecting the right pieces made with fabrics and processes that aim to be more sustainable today than they were the day before. What’s often overlooked is the importance of caring — specifically washing — for clothing after you receive it. We all want our nice things to last as long as possible, especially if they cost a pretty penny. Every fabric can be finicky in its own way - novel blends and pieces with unique features especially so - and failing to follow washing instructions damages their fibers' integrity, dulls colors, and eventually warps the intended shape. Bringing some intentionality to clothing care helps them last longer, which lowers their ecological impact by spreading the costs of production across a longer timeline. It also has noticeable downstream effects on a larger scale. The classic machine washing process requires water and energy, often leaving chemical contaminants in its wake. As frequenters of shared and public spaces, we aren’t advocating people stop washing their clothes. There are ample opportunities for easy improvement, though, once you start to look, whether washing only as often as necessary, in cold water rather than hot (less energy), or hanging clothes to dry. Thinking about how to care for each piece marks an important change in mind shift, one in which clothing isn’t just a consumable to be run into the dirt but a tool to be polished and kept in rotation for as long as possible. Year after year, clothing protects us from the elements and provides us with essential stylistic flair, so it’s only fair to have their back with ethical care as they have ours in a more literal sense. Durability is one of the most sought-after attributes of outdoor apparel (especially those at a premium price point), but how can you identify pieces that truly last versus those that fall apart?    Durability is something you hope for when you first place a hand onto a new garment - maybe feeling the inklings of it within its weight, buttons, and zippers. Yet what dazzles on the store rack doesn’t always translate to the rough-and-tumble trail, and this disconnect can be understandably disappointing.   We believe product durability is achieved as the culmination of several factors rather than any single production choice, and it can only be proven after months or years of affable abuse in various environments.   When looking for lasting products, it’s all about the details large and small. First and foremost, consider the materials that make up the fabric, as this is the backbone of any piece. Think about why these were chosen and if their associated properties match your intended use.    From there, little design flourishes continue to tip the scale toward durability. Take a closer look at aspects like stitching, double layering, and reinforcements — especially at the common failure points like knees, elbows, and shoulders. Of course, even the best-made gear breaks down over a long enough period of time. Repairability adds a whole new depth to a product’s potential longevity, not to mention helping justify its production's ecological cost by stretching its viability even further.   Durability doesn’t necessarily mean something will last forever, but intentional early design choices and post-sale support programs produce the kinds of apparel that last decades rather than mere seasons. We’re intent on producing the types of pieces that age well, taking on more character with every knick and scrape. If and when you ever retire them, they'll still look and feel like the grizzled, durable survivor of a thousand storied adventures.

Soapbox: The Arrival of Autumn As the last bit of summer breeze slips us by, it's worth pausing for a moment to note the transition. Today marks the autumn equinox, the official border between the summer and fall seasons, and we wave goodbye to one as we celebrate the arrival of another. While winter and summer have long stretches of similarity, fall is a time of transition. Temperatures drop, daylight shrinks, leaves change and fall faster than they grow anew. It's a quieting of sorts, yet at the same time, filled with activity between the steady beat of holidays and days spent hiking through rich foliage - then capped with nights around crackling campfires. Autumn has always been my favorite. If every year is a story, it's both the climax and the falling action where the gathered energy of the preceding months peaks before sliding into its inevitable conclusion. There's a bittersweetness as branches become barer each day, but beauty is evident and unparalleled within the burst of colors and feelings you just don't find in the other seasons. The last crest in a trail before the descent into winter, autumn is an ideal vantage point to survey the path behind us and squint at the horizon ahead. It’s a time to collect, digest, reflect, plan, and enjoy. It’s a busy time for most, but we hope you find some time to appreciate this year's final flourish and bow within the weeks and months to come. - Brian, LIVSN Community Manager P.S. - What does autumn mean to you? Feel free to drop us a line to brian@livsndesigns.com about the sights, sounds, and feelings you associate with the last season of the year. We might just feature you on our channels.

Production update: We don’t know the full impact of Typhoon Yagi yet, but our longtime production partners are located in northern Vietnam. We’re keeping them and their people in mind, and will share any further updates about how this event might impact our supply chain and Ecotrek Overalls delivery timeline. Last time we checked, our production partners still did not have power. Our hearts go out to the families affected by this devastating storm - and we'll keep you updated. LIVSN
