🫶 𝗧𝘂𝗲𝘀𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗴𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗧𝗶𝗽𝘀 🫶 Every caregiving situation is different, but there are a few foundational areas that will allow caregivers to have the best opportunity to navigate the situation more effectively while remaining focused on your loved one receiving the best care possible. 𝗨𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗹𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗱 𝗼𝗻𝗲. The first step in caring for an elderly parent is understanding their needs. This includes physical health, mental health, and daily living needs. A comprehensive health check-up is recommended to understand their medical conditions along with the medications they may be on. 𝗨𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗺𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘂𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻. Regular medication evaluations are crucial as they can prevent harmful drug interactions, eliminate unnecessary medications, and ensure the medication regimen is effective. Make sure to have a healthcare professional review your loved one's medications regularly. 𝗨𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲𝘁𝗲 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗽𝗶𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲. Caring for an elderly parent often comes with significant financial implications. Understanding the costs involved is crucial, including medical expenses, caregiver salaries, home modifications, and more. Consider working with a professional specializing in elder care to help you navigate this complex process. 𝗨𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗮𝗹 𝗱𝗼𝗰𝘂𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀. Ensure that all legal affairs are in order. This might include power of attorney, living wills, and advanced-care directives. These documents protect your parent's wishes and ensure you have the legal authority to decide on their behalf. #caregivers #caregivingsupport #caregivingtips

Becoming a caregiver for the first time often comes with a lot of "unknowns." That's why we created our Essential Plan. In a recent interview, our founder Christina Pinto Rogers CFP® explained why she feels the Essential Plan is a great resource for those supporting a loved one. "All of our plans come from my experience and what I really needed when I was caregiving for my mom. With our newest addition, the Essential Plan, our nurse practitioner will complete a detailed medication review, perform a cognitive assessment, and write a medical history summary. I found these to be some of the most concerning issues when caring for my mom." #caregiving #medicationmanagement #cognitivehealth

🫶 𝗧𝘂𝗲𝘀𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗴𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗧𝗶𝗽𝘀 🫶 𝟯 𝗪𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗕𝗮𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗴𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 1️⃣ 𝗣𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘇𝗲 & 𝗗𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗮𝘁𝗲 Make a list of your caregiving tasks and personal responsibilities, then prioritize them based on their importance and urgency. Identify the tasks that only you can do such as taking your loved one to appointments or handling their finances, and delegate the ones that others can help with such as grocery shopping or house cleaning. Don't hesitate to ask for help from friends, family, or paid caregivers. 2️⃣ 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗹𝗲 & 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗲 Create a schedule that includes both your caregiving and personal responsibilities and stick to it as much as possible. Share your schedule with loved ones so they know when you're available and when you need time for yourself. Communicate your needs and boundaries clearly. Don't feel guilty about taking breaks or saying no to requests that don't fit with your schedule or priorities. 3️⃣ 𝗦𝗲𝗹𝗳-𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗲 & 𝗦𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 Take care of yourself physically, emotionally, and mentally so you can be a better caregiver and person. This includes eating well, exercising, sleeping enough, and doing activities that bring you joy and relaxation. Seek support and resources from organizations, professionals, or peers who understand your situation and can offer advice, encouragement, or empathy. Remember that you're not alone in this and that taking care of yourself is also taking care of your loved one.
