In celebration of Earth Day, LYM is embarking on an EcoMenstrualFlow initiative which is planting 100 trees in support of the environment. We realized that many girls, women, and menstruators are comfortable using disposable period products. Not everyone is comfortable using the menstrual cup or reusable products. We do not shame anyone but we hope to encourage each one of us especially those who receive free menstrual products from our organization to also plant a tree. Our goal is to plant over 100 trees as we care for the environment. Loving Your Menses to us is also Loving the world around us and ensuring it is cleaner for the future of our youths. #Earthday #LoveYourMenses #EcoMenstrualFlow #HealthEquity

About us
Love Your Menses was founded in 2019 in response to the growing menstrual wellness needs of young people. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, we promote menstrual equity and build the next generation of leaders by providing an educational, uplifting and supportive space for Black and Brown girls and gender-expansive youth, women, and all people who menstruate to learn about the menstrual cycle and create equitable public health solutions. We do this work through evidence based reproductive health and wellness education, STEM youth programming, menstrual product distribution, and mentorship.

For our February 2024 Webinar, we had the pleasure of learning strategies for nurturing leadership in our daughters from our speaker Elaine Lee, the Founder and Director of Girl Link Org (GLO). Elaine created Girl Link Org to provide a space and guidance for girls to connect and help each other navigate through life. She started off the webinar with a powerful message for young girls: “You are intelligent, you are special, you are unique, you are an individual, and you are important” Empowering girls to become leaders is vital to ensuring a diverse and equitable future. Elaine continued the webinar by sharing ways to build confidence in girls. Some ways of achieving this include: To encourage positive self-talk To set achievable goals To accept constructive feedback To promote skills development In addition to these leadership building blocks, it is also important for girls to have role models and a supportive team. Elaine notes that a good role model is someone positive and is available to guide the girls during tough times. This leads to creating a supportive environment, which is crucial for overcoming challenges and celebrating successes. Have you had time to breathe today? Dr. Luguterah shares her expertise with us on maintaining self-care and wellness in this new year. When setting wellness goals for the new year, Dr. Luguterah recommends making them simple, smart, and realistic to you. Your ability to be consistent matters, so make sure the goals you’re setting will fit into your schedule. Throughout the year, continue to review your progress and modify your expectations- making sure to measure your progress in increments. Most importantly, celebrate the small wins! This all starts with being proactive in your self-care. Dr. Luguterah cites 8 dimensions of self-care: physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, intellectual, environment, social, and financial. Take the time to look within yourself to learn which dimensions you make be lacking and set goals around this. With the complexity of our everyday lives, it's important to practice mindfulness and try to avoid the stressors in our lives. Dr. Luguterah compares self-care to a very familiar airplane safety recommendation- you must place your oxygen mask on yourself before helping others. All too often, we find ourselves putting others' needs before our own which can take a toll on our wellbeing. We must remember to hold ourselves accountable to maintain our own wellness. This accountability will help us continue to uplift each other. She emphasizes that wellness is not something that is given to you, you have to work for it. Self-care is not selfish! #breatheinbreatheout #breathe #selfcare #selflove #selfcarejourney #selfesteem #selfcareisnotselfish #selfcareisntselfish #selfcareishealthcare #selflovetips #selflovematters #newyear2024 #newyeargoals #newbeginnings #menstrualhygiene #menstrualhygieneday #worldmenstrualhygieneday #menstrualhygienemanagement #menstrualhygieneday2018 #internationalmenstrualhygieneday #menstrualhygieneawareness #menstrualhygienemonth #happymenstrualhygieneday #worldmenstrualhygiene #worldmenstrualhygieneday2018 #nationalmenstrualhygieneday #goodmenstrualhygiene #sayyestogoodmenstrualhygiene #awarenessaboutmenstrualhygiene #freemenstrualhygiene #menstrualhygieneâ

Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr (MLK) was a civil rights leader who practiced and encouraged peaceful protests against injustice and inequality. We at Love Your Menses, Inc. join the world in honoring him and his achievements on his birthday. Dr. King spoke, wrote, marched, and always dreamed of a better future for his community. A lot has changed since MLK died in 1968 but there is still so much to be done for our community to achieve the dream that MLK had for all of us. And to us, ending Period Poverty is one of them! MLK Day is also known as National Day of service. A day to volunteer in your community and make an impact similar to what Dr. King did when he was alive. One of our favorite quotes from MLK says "A person dies when they refuse to stand up for that which is right. A person dies when they refuse to stand up for injustice. A person dies when they refuse to take a stand for that which is true." We at LYM feel alive with his dream when every day as we promote equity in our children by creating programs such as flowtech4girls to close the gap in the tech field for black and brown people who menstruate. We have created menstrual education and product distribution programs to teach our community about their body, accept their body, and give them access to resources that are available to them. Our programs are geared towards our community and we encourage everyone regardless of gender, age, or race to join us and help build our community in the way you feel honors MLK’s dreams for a better world. On January 15th, @LYM will join the world in celebrating MLK day by donating pads and volunteering with City Year Greater Boston. Please join us and share the word with those who might benefit from this event. #MLK2024 #periodpoverty #Globalhealth #LYM #Loveyourmenses

Mental health has increasingly become a important discussion in our society. At first it was mis-understood and mis-interpreted as being selfish but it is now becoming a more acceptable concept in our society. We Love Your Menses, Inc. would like to start the year 2024 by putting ourselves first, through Self-care and Wellness. The first step is to pause and reflect on the last few years. In the last few years, we have encountered numerous psychological stressors due to the Covid 19 pandemic, wars going on in different parts of the world, economy instability to name a few. Stressors such as these can be overwhelming, distressing and uncomfortable for most people (Ridner, 2004). Numerous studies have shown that the Covid 19 pandemic alone caused a significant psychological distress to healthcare workers, and everyone in general (Li et al., 2020; Wang et al., 2020). Some people confessed to having increased anxiety, grief due to the loss of loved ones and depression due to social distancing and inability to socialize with peers. Despite all of these, we have to survive and thrive. A means of doing it is self-care. Self-care is a stress coping mechanism. There are different methods for practicing self-care, but what we encourage each individual to do what they feel makes them happy and be open to trying new self-care methods. Please Join us on Wednesday, January 17th, 2024 at 5pm ET as we have a conversation with Sister-doc, Dr. Luguterah, as we discuss tips for setting and keeping your wellness goals for the new year. #newbeginnings #newyear2024 #selfcarejourney #selfcaretips #selfloveisthebestlove #selfcarematters #menstrualhygiene #menstrualhygieneday #worldmenstrualhygieneday #menstrualhygienemanagement #menstrualhygieneday2018 #internationalmenstrualhygieneday #menstrualhygieneawareness #menstrualhygienemonth #happymenstrualhygieneday #worldmenstrualhygiene #worldmenstrualhygieneday2018 #nationalmenstrualhygieneday #goodmenstrualhygiene #sayyestogoodmenstrualhygiene #awarenessaboutmenstrualhygiene #freemenstrualhygiene #menstrualhygieneâ

Obesity is a growing concern in the United States, the CDC reports that in 2017, the prevalence of obesity was 41.5% and the numbers is on the rise. Obesity-related conditions such as heart disease, stroke, and Type-2 diabetes are also on the rise as well. The CDC also reports that Non-Hispanic Black adults (49.9%) have the highest prevalence of obesity in the United States. The holiday season is a time when more people struggle with weight gain, mostly due to excessive caloric intake, the lack of exercise and the psychosocial stressors of being around family. A systematic review conducted by Abdulan et al (2023) analyzed 216 studies and found that most participants experienced weight fluctuations during the holiday season. An interesting observation found that most of the weight gained during the holidays were not lost at the end of the research study. Although weight gained during the holidays can possibly be lost over time, however, we argue that it is more beneficial to just prevent the weight gain. The gold standard for weight loss is a supervised exercise program maintained concurrently with a controlled diet (Jensen et al., 2014). During these festive periods, implementing these two important techniques might be difficult to do, if not done intentionally. A proactive approach is to implement small changes during this period such as eating in moderation, going out for walks, or dancing and using this period to de-stress instead of being stressed. Please join us on Wednesday, Dec 13th, 2023 @ 6.30pm EST on YouTube and Facebook Livestreamed as we dialog with Dr. Yvonne Kangong MD MD, MPH, D’ABOM for more tips on staying healthy during the holidays. #obesity #obesityawareness #holidaystress #holidayseason #holidays #holidaytips #holidays2023 #blackhealthmatters #healthandwellness #menstrualhygiene #menstrualhygieneday #worldmenstrualhygieneday #menstrualhygienemanagement #menstrualhygieneday2018 #internationalmenstrualhygieneday #menstrualhygieneawareness #menstrualhygienemonth #happymenstrualhygieneday #worldmenstrualhygiene #worldmenstrualhygieneday2018 #nationalmenstrualhygieneday #goodmenstrualhygiene #sayyestogoodmenstrualhygiene #awarenessaboutmenstrualhygiene #freemenstrualhygiene #menstrualhygieneâ
