Official account of Illinois’ 48th Lieutenant Governor. Advancing justice, equity, and opportunity (#JEO) in Illinois.
About us
Juliana Stratton is excited to serve the residents of Illinois as the state’s 48th Lieutenant Governor. In 2019, she shattered barriers when inaugurated as the first Black Lieutenant Governor and the first Black woman to serve as a constitutional officer in Illinois’ over 200-year history. She is highly qualified, dedicated, and confident that the best solutions for the challenges we face in our communities are found when we tap into the wisdom that already exists within them. In addition to spearheading the administration’s Justice, Equity, and Opportunity Initiative, Stratton also brings her visionary leadership to more than a dozen councils, commissions, boards, and agencies as Chair or executive liaison. Named by Chicago Magazine as one of the “50 Most Powerful Women in Chicago,” Stratton has been recognized by numerous organizations as an “Outstanding Legislator,” “Trailblazer and History Maker,” and “Woman of the Year” for her commitment to public service and social justice advocacy. She and her husband, Bryan, live in Chicago’s Bronzeville neighborhood and Springfield with their four daughters. Stratton loves the state of Illinois, the people of Illinois, and doing the work that will make Illinois the best for the next generation.

The answers to tomorrow’s ag workforce needs lie in collaboration. Breakout sessions at last week’s first ever Illinois Agri-Food Workforce Summit fostered that collaboration by asking “How can we reimagine ag and build stronger industry alliances?” #AgConnectsUsAll and we aren’t just talking about the future, we’re building it!

Ag is far more than just sitting on a tractor (though that’s part of it). It’s food production, technology, research, law... the list goes on. #AgConnectsUsAll and I’m so thrilled to kick off Illinois’ first ever Agri-Food Workforce Summit! This isn’t just a matter of preparing for the future, it’s also about fortifying the present. Stay tuned!

“I am more than what happened to me, I am not just my trauma.” This is the root of the Healing Centered concept developed by Dr. Shawn Ginwright who joined yesterday’s Healing Centered Illinois Task Force meeting. The energy from Dr. Ginwright was contagious and resonated so deeply. We are more determined than ever to make lasting change in our communities.

As women outlive men, there’s a huge transfer of wealth ahead—women will hold double the wealth they did a decade before. That’s why it’s more important than ever for women to be educated and empowered to achieve financial wellness. When women thrive, we all thrive... in this generation and beyond! #WeThrive

DID YOU HEAR 🚨 We just announced the third round of R3 grants! Using tax revenue from adult-use recreational cannabis sales, Illinois Criminal Justice Information Authority is distributing $35 million in grants to programs supporting communities most affected by criminal justice system overuse. #R3 is bringing restorative, healing solutions to people and regions hardest hit by the failed war on drugs.
