At the Lucas Center we believe that leadership is not a title you hold, but the actions you take to inspire and empower others. That's why we are thrilled to welcome an upcoming event to our community - Faces of Leadership, August 24, 2024 in Brunswick, GA. Hosted by Command Presence Leadership Institute, this free community-wide event celebrates the power of collective learning and growth.

❓ DYK that for each additional micro-business per 100 people, a county increases household median income by $489/year (American Community Survey)? Winning hearts and changing minds takes a combination of data and storytelling. Fortunately, for the The Lucas Center for Entrepreneurship, our advisory Chair, Vanessa Wagner, CDMP brings both to any discussion on entrepreneurship. Check out more information on programs and data on the economic impacts of entrepreneurship programs and supporting small businesses in her latest write up - https://lnkd.in/eE4hHasK #DreamBig #Entrepreneurship #BrunswickGA
Big plans for the upcoming holiday 🎇 ? If you’re in Georgia, there’s a good chance that your celebrations will intersect with a small business. Georgia has the second-highest percentage of population in the nation that has started a new business (0.47%). Across the state, economic development professionals and leaders are seeing the impacts of entrepreneurship in a big way. Our own Vanessa Wagner, CDMP and Scott Purvis shared the economic value that entrepreneurs have on Georgia at the recent Georgia Municipal Association training, "Entrepreneur Friendly Cities". Joined by partners, the session also shared best practices and resources to help leaders strengthen their support for small businesses. "We're for the people who say, 'I have a business idea, and I don't know where to start." or 'I have a business already and am really good at hair or barbecue or sewing, but I don't know anything about the business side," shared Dr. Ande Notkes about the Lucas Center in the recent Golden Isles feature in Georgia Trend. We are beaming with pride after seeing our community, partners, and even Lucas Center alumni in this special edition. Thank you to each of you, for your role in making the coast a great place to live, work, and learn. https://lnkd.in/eq-mS75n #dreambig #entrepreneurship #brunswickga

"If tourism is the life blood of the Golden Isles, then small business is our backbone," Ralph Staffins, III, CEcD shared this morning to kick-off the Fearless Fundraising event in Historic Brunswick. This special edition of the Lucas Forum brought a special treat - sharing the panel stage with College of Coastal Georgia and Lucas Center alum, Pryce May. Pryce inspired the attendees by sharing how he bootstrapped his company, and non-profit, Golden Isles Film Festival, Inc., to expand the film and creative arts industry for Coastal Georgia. Thank you to the entrepreneurs who shared their stories this morning, as well as Georgia Secretary of State, Brad Raffensperger, and the Brunswick-Golden Isles Chamber of Commerce for their partnership. #Entrepreneurship #SmallBusiness #DreamBig

📢 Lucas Forum Special Edition. This Wednesday, June 5. This week on Wednesday is our monthly entrepreneurship coffee, the Lucas Forum, with a little bit of a different format thanks to our friends at the Georgia Secretary of State's office. We will have a panel of speakers talking about their entrepreneurial experiences followed by an optional workshop (put on by the Secretary's office) on finding funding for your business. Doors open at 8am for networking (and breakfast and coffee, of course!), and the panel discussion will begin at 9am. You do not have to stay for the full workshop and are welcome to attend just the panel discussion from 9am to 10am. We'll meet at the beautiful Queen and Grant venue at 1315 Grant Street in downtown Brunswick. Hope to see you all there on Wednesday!

From community building to aquaponics - the ideas from Friday's bootcamp in Darien, Georgia were inspiring. Each entrepreneur worked hard throughout the day to evaluate the problem their business is solving, how to reach customers, and turning these ideas into a registered business. Please join us in thanking our program sponsors, McIntosh County Industrial Development Authority, Darien McIntosh County Chamber of Commerce, and and Darien Downtown Development Authority. Without our sponsors and other supporters, we wouldn't be able to provide these events at no-cost to the entrepreneurs who attend. Together, we have helped over 500 entrepreneurs access business education, mentors, and investors through the Lucas Center at the College of Coastal Georgia. #DreamBig #LucasCenter #Entrepreneurship

Our facilitators and mentors are excited to stop into Darien this Friday to host an Idea Bootcamp💡 ! “Every great business started with an idea. Helping our residents take their ideas from a napkin sketch to a business plan is one way we can help grow and strengthen the local community,” Thomas Draffin, President & CEO of McIntosh County Industrial Development Authority. Thank you to the McIntosh County Industrial Development Authority for sponsoring the program and supporting local entrepreneurs. #DreamBig #DarienGA #Entrepreneurs
