ZIVA Light Engine + Yokogawa CSU-W1 Return Remarkable Images at MBL’s Advanced Research Training Courses! The Marine Biological Laboratory (MBL) is a world-renowned leader in technical development and education in the field of light microscopy. This year, participants in MBL’s courses had the opportunity to use the Yokogawa Life Science CSU-W1 Scanner paired with Lumencor’s ZIVA Light Engine, and the results were stunning!   In addition to providing equipment, Lumencor hosted an imaging competition to showcase the innovative work of MBL students. VOLTA Scanner: High-Throughput Cardiomyocyte Electrophysiology with an Optical Pacemaker A team of researchers from Pfizer, Eli Lilly and Company, and the University of Liverpool demonstrated the utility of Lumencor’s VOLTA Scanner together with human induced pluripotent stem cell-derived cardiomyocytes (hIPSC-CM) and BeRST, a voltage-sensitive fluorescent dye, for high-throughput cardiac electrophysiological safety profiling of drug candidates [1]. The VOLTA Scanner controls pacing optogenetically, using the 462 nm laser source in conjunction with the light-gated cation channel protein channelrhodopsin (ChR2). Channelrhodopsin-mediated cardiomyocyte contraction is especially helpful to coordinate contractions in non-synchronous cardiomyocyte populations or to increase the pace of contraction above baseline for enhanced cardiotoxicity sensitivity.
