Advancing Air Mobility at SAAIC 2024 ✈️🚁 One of the key moments at the Sustainable Airport Areas International Conference was the panel on Advanced Air Mobility (AAM), held on September 26th. With the rapid expansion of eVTOL technology, the focus is now on implementing this innovation into airspace that was never designed for such dense low-altitude traffic. Our colleague, Maria Krylova, delivered a presentation on the challenges and solutions for AAM infrastructure, emphasizing the need for new regulations, software, air traffic control, and safety protocols. Maria shared insights on the growing variety of AAM use cases, ranging from unmanned mobility for infrastructure monitoring and agriculture to the future of passenger transport. As leading startups target 2025 for type certification, the groundwork for supporting infrastructure—including vertiports, production facilities, and maintenance operations—must be laid soon. Following her presentation, Maria joined an insightful roundtable with the Civil Aviation Administration of China and other experts to discuss airspace management challenges and the potential for AAM integration in the Asian market. At M2P, we also observe a growing interest in Airspace Management and low-altitude economy implementation, ever since we began collaborating with research institutions and partners who are paving the way for new air mobility. 🌍 Sustainable Airport Areas International Conference 2024: A Gateway to Innovation and Growth in China ✈️ The Sustainable Airport Areas International Conference (SAAIC) kicked off on September 25th with an exciting opening ceremony, featuring key officials such as the Deputy Mayor of Beijing, the Mayor of Daxing District, representatives from the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC), and leaders from Capital Airport Holding Co. The event highlighted the rapid development of Daxing District and Airport City, constructed in just five years. With the terminal set to reach full capacity by year’s end, plans for a new satellite terminal are already in motion. Day 1 was dedicated to Airport City Development, where the CAAC emphasized the strategic role of Airport Cities in driving local economic growth, fostering innovation, and supporting sustainable airport expansion. Day 2 shifted the spotlight to Advanced Air Mobility (AAM), a hot topic that drew overwhelming interest from the Chinese government. Our panel, fully booked with international experts, explored the implementation of AAM within airport areas and urban settings. Our colleague Maria Krylova co-moderated the panel and roundtables with Melinda Zhu, presenting on “Challenges vs. Solutions in Advanced Air Mobility Infrastructure Integration”, and offering insights into the complexities of vertiport network development. A notable highlight was the introduction of the “low-altitude economy” by Chinese delegates, reflecting the rapid pace of air mobility innovation in Asia. With international startups progressing toward certification and service, the conversation naturally turned to crucial topics like airworthiness and airspace management. Day 3 concluded with an exciting tour of Airport City, where delegates explored key non-aviation developments, including the Hydrogen Test Center, Health Center, and the Information Center, unveiling the urban growth plans for Daxing District. We are inspired by the scale of Airport City developments and the emerging low-altitude economy in China.
