We were delighted to be a Platinum Sponsor at Markets Group’s third Annual Private Wealth Australia Forum held last week in Sydney.   Our Head of Credit Investments and Lending Frank Danieli spoke on a panel and hosted a roundtable discussion on the topic ‘Private credit: is it the Wild West? The good, the bad and the ugly of what matters in private lending’.   With the growth of private credit has come questions about whether this is a risky lending bubble – and there are very different perspectives on either side of the debate. Frank explained it’s not about the channel of lending, but rather about the economic fundamentals of the loans themselves, how they are made, and how they are managed.   What really matters when it comes to choosing a private credit manager? In our view it’s scale, proprietary deal origination, institutional grade investment processes, portfolio management and infrastructure, along with workouts capabilities and alignment of interest with investors.

We are extremely proud to announce our strategic partnership with humm group's flexicommercial Australia asset finance platform in an Australian first co-lending deal.   The deal will see us acquire up to $1 billion worth of Flexicommercial’s commercial asset finance loans (with a seed portfolio of ~$500m) via our private credit managed funds in a forward flow arrangement, giving us and our investors access to a substantial pipeline of high quality, prime asset finance loans.   In an interview today with the The Australian Financial Review's Aaron Weinman our Head of Credit Investments and Lending Frank Danieli said “Our new strategic partnership with Flexicommercial is an innovative financing strategy and an advancement for Australia’s private credit industry. We have seen the power of co-lending programs globally and are seeking to introduce these opportunities to our local market. This arrangement allows us to access an attractive pipeline of prime asset finance deal flow, diversify MA Financial’s private credit portfolio and participate in the growth of the commercial asset finance sector for our managed funds.   We have identified asset financing as an attractive lending space for some time. The rise of the broker channel is creating more options for borrowers and a more level playing field for non-bank financiers to provide customers lending solutions. We like sectors where banks are ceding market share and are no longer the most efficient provider of capital. We think there are compelling risk-adjusted returns available in these market gaps. This unique partnership structure with Flexicommercial is an effective way for us to capitalise on these thematics in asset finance for our managed funds.” https://lnkd.in/gH5e-JPQ

We were thrilled to host a number of our valued clients on our inaugural study tour in New York City last week. Leveraging the networks of our strategic partner and shareholder Moelis & Company, together with our local NYC team (MA Asset Management), we met some of the USA’s foremost investors, wealth managers, market commentators and policymakers.   We also had the privilege of dinner and conversation with Founder, Chairman and CEO of Moelis & Company, Ken Moelis. Common themes in our discussions were: • a soft landing continues to be most probable • corporate American EBITDA growth is solid • non-residential real estate values are bottoming • investors are continuing to focus on alternative asset classes with strong tailwinds.

Late last year, Ashees J., Head of US Credit Investments, and Chris Wyke, Joint CEO of MA Financial Group, sat down with national paper, The Australian, to discuss our strategic growth in the US private lending sector.   Key takeaways: Navigating market shifts. Our primary focus is on successfully navigating the dynamic market shifts. We're capitalizing on the growing demand for private lending, targeting loans in the $10m to $100m segment. US market potential. The US market, with its higher potential returns and diverse banking sector, presents a prime opportunity for Australian investors, especially in the realm of private debt. Proactive growth strategy. Our expansion in the US market aligns with our goal to broaden our reach and deepen our impact in the international financial landscape, reinforcing MA Financial's commitment to innovative and strategic investment approaches.   As we continue to evolve and adapt to the changing economic conditions, our focus remains on identifying opportunities for our clients and our stakeholders.   #MAFinancial #USDebtMarket #InvestmentStrategy #MarketInsights

Following the establishment of MA Financial in the US, Joint CEO Chris Wyke and Head of US Credit Investments Ashees J. shared an update with The Australian's David R. Ross and discussed the increased opportunities for Australian investors, stemming from the pullback of American regional banks.   “The US presents far larger opportunities for Australian investors in the private debt space. It has a more fragmented banking landscape coupled with a far larger economy. In the States, it’s a deeper market, the returns are higher and therefore as a business model opportunity, it’s pretty attractive.”   https://lnkd.in/gNGRhqHT

Our Co-Head of US Credit Investments Ashees J. has spent the past few weeks with our Australian counterparts. Alongside Joint CEO Chris Wyke and Head of Credit Investments and Lending Frank Danieli, the team ran a series of events discussing and debating the diverse landscape that is private credit and its emerging opportunities.   Their discussions shed light on the shifting tides in both the US and Australian credit markets, emphasizing the unique opportunities for non-bank lenders amidst the global shift in interest rate dynamics. As traditional banking avenues tighten up, the horizon looks promising for private credit lenders aiming for robust performance with well-calibrated risks.

We were excited to have Ashees J. Co-Head of US Credit Investments in Australia over the last few weeks.   In a series of national events held in conjunction with Joint CEO Chris Wyke and Head of Credit Investments and Lending Frank Danieli, the team discussed and debated their outlook for private credit and the opportunities emerging for non-bank lenders following the most aggressive, globally coordinated interest rate tightening cycle on record.   The consensus view, for both Australian and US credit markets, is that a structural evolution is underway to lend in areas previously dominated by banks. Increasing pressure on the banking sector and tightening prudential standards is providing a generational opportunity for private credit lenders to deliver continued performance through-the-cycle with outsized returns relative to risk.
