The Mack Institute is proud to sponsor Penn Hyperloop as they head to Bastrop, Texas, to compete in the final round of The Boring Company’s 2025 Not-a-Boring Competition! The Not-a-Boring Competition is an annual event aiming to revolutionize tunneling technology. The competition challenges teams from around the world to design, build, and operate advanced tunnel boring machines (TBMs) that can dig tunnels faster and more efficiently than current methods. Penn Hyperloop is made up of students from Penn Engineering, Wharton, and Penn Arts & Sciences. Their custom tunnel boring machines was fully designed and assembled in Pennsylvania, with some components manufactured in-house at Penn’s Precision Machining Laboratory.

Check out Mack faculty co-director Prof. John Paul MacDuffie's timely op-ed.
#KnowledgeatWharton recently featured my Op-Ed titled "The EV Trade War Alone Won't Protect U.S. Manufacturing," shedding light on the evolving landscape of the mobility sector and the global automotive industry. The piece delves into the shift in the U.S. administration's tariff approach, emphasizing the necessity for a strategic national plan to aid American companies in navigating the intricate shift from Internal Combustion Engines (ICE) to the innovative realm of Connected Autonomous Shared Electric (CASE) vehicles.

Check out the newest episode of the #RippleEffect podcast series on innovation, produced in cooperation with the Mack Institute. In this interview, Prof. Arthur van Benthem discusses how home automation software and smart EV charging can help lower Americans' electricity bills.
Electricity mispricing leads to financial inefficiencies that cost billions of dollars annually across the U.S., The Wharton School professor Arthur van Benthem's research found. While wholesale electricity costs fluctuate throughout the day, most consumers pay a fixed rate, leading to higher peak-time demand and unnecessary costs, he explains in the latest episode of our Ripple Effect podcast's four-part series on Innovation. Real-time pricing could offer a smarter solution, but unpredictable bills and market resistance stand as limitations to this change. Tune in to the full interview to learn more about his research with the Mack Institute for Innovation Management: https://whr.tn/3X4r2tv #Electricity #Sustainability #Energy #EnergyGrid
