After her mother’s passing in May 2018, MCF’s Director of Grantmaking, Angela Davis, decided to honor her mother by creating the Nora Lee Moore-Davis Fund for A Fund for Women. Angela’s fund started as an Acorn Fund and this month it graduated to a Donor Advised Fund after reaching the $15,000 minimum! The fund will join the 40 other named funds for A Fund for Women and will begin making distributions to support AFFW’s grantmaking this year. Angela stated “I wanted to honor my mother and MCF made it a simple process during a difficult time in my life. My mother taught me that nothing should hold a woman back from being whatever she wants to in life and the A Fund for Women mission mirrors that lesson perfectly. I am blessed by my family, friends and colleagues who have contributed to this fund and I am so excited that the Nora Lee Moore-Davis Fund for AFFW will begin to support women and girls in Madison this year.”

Enhancing the common good through philanthropy
About us
Madison Community Foundation's mission is to enhance the common good through philanthropy. Created in 1942 as Madison Community Trust, MCF helps people do their charitable giving their way, to causes they care about most. By starting a named endowment fund, giving to a Community Impact Fund, a fund that supports a favorite cause or nonprofit, or a variety of other funds, donors become catalysts for good today and for generations to come. As the community’s foundation, MCF plays a vital role in local philanthropy. MCF is unique in its deep knowledge of the community and philanthropic expertise. Together with donors and the nonprofits they support, MCF strives to help the Madison area become a vibrant and generous place where all people thrive. MCF is a tax-exempt, 501(c)(3) community trust, as designated by the Internal Revenue Service. Contributions are deductible to the fullest extent of the law. Endowment fund assets are invested in either a broadly diversified or socially responsive portfolio. Charitable distributions can be made to any charity throughout the United States, and can benefit people and support charitable causes close to home and around the world.

Happy Juneteenth! On this day in 1865, slavery came to an end in the United States with the liberation of slaves in Texas. June 19th marks both a day of remembrance of the men and women freed from slavery on this day, who fought against racism and oppression for future generations, and a day of celebration of Black triumphs and freedom for all. Today, MCF staff attended the groundbreaking for The Center for Black Excellence and Culture for Black Excellence and Culture. MCF proudly gave $100,000 towards the Center's capital campaign in 2022 and it was surreal experience to see this amazing vision for the Black community in Dane County come to life today. This center, lead by Rev. Dr. Alexander Gee, will provide a much needed space for Black brilliance to thrive in Madison. The groundbreaking was a wonderful homage to the roots of Juneteenth: triumph, unity and equity for all!
