Care Team Member Spotlight! Wendy, Registered Medical Assistant – Mid Coast Medical Group Women’s Health Wendy has been a MaineHealth care team member for 22 years! After working at the Miles campus in Damariscotta for approximately 10 years, she transferred to Women’s Health at Mid Coast in Brunswick and has been working with this practice ever since. “There really is nothing typical about my workday, which is one of the many reasons why I love working here,” said Wendy. “Our team develops relationships with our OB and other established patients, we assist our physicians with multiple hands-on procedures, we have the opportunity to participate in projects within the practice – all of this in addition to the routine patient rooming tasks that MAs in other practices perform.” “Our physician group is exceptional, and I personally believe that the physician I am primarily assigned to is outstanding. Our physicians show a lot of respect and care for the MAs and other team members in the practice. We are all committed to providing quality care and show compassion to our patients.” When asked about a favorite memory or moment while working as a Medical Assistant at MaineHealth, Wendy added, “I still remember almost 20 years ago accompanying a young single mother, alone in the community, and provided her support and stayed with her until she delivered her healthy baby.” Wendy – thank you so much for sharing your experiences and congratulations on a long, outstanding career as a Medical Assistant. Care Team Member Spotlight! Amy, Neurodiagnostic Tech – Outpatient Neurology Amy has been with MaineHealth Neurology over a year and a half, working as a tech for the last eight months! She started her career as a Scheduling Specialist, before deciding to return to school to become an EEG Technician. Amy also has family members who have worked with MaineHealth in the Health Information Management (HIM) department. “I am located in our outpatient office at Neurology and a typical day consists of me seeing 2 pediatric patients and 2 adult patients”, said Amy. “I share information with my patients about the test, what it does/ what we are looking for and interesting facts about their brain. I love meeting patients, hearing about their life, kids, grandkids. I love working with my pediatric patients, they are full of energy!” “Neurology is like family”, Amy added. “Since day one I felt like I was at home here. Everyone is very patient-oriented, always willing to help wherever needed and always willing to answer questions. Our doctors have even spent one on one time with me, teaching me about EEG pattern recognition.” When asked about a favorite memory or moment while working at MaineHealth Neurology, Amy said: “Every time one of the pediatric patients gives me a high five or a hug before they leave, those are all special moments for me. When a returning patient comes back, and they say ‘I was hoping you were going to be my tech’ always puts a smile on my face, and really reinforces my decision to become a tech.” “If you are looking for a well-paying, rewarding career, I would recommend looking into Neurodiagnostics. We are a small department that is not very well known in the community and is often overlooked. We are incredibly lucky to work with some of the most down-to-earth doctors within MaineHealth. Last week, Care Team Members participated in the United Way of Southern Maine's annual CANstruction sculpture contest. MaineHealth honored the spirit of the Summer Games in Paris with an impressive Eiffel Tower sculpture built entirely from donated cans! Together with other local businesses, we helped collect enough food for over 20,000 meals to fight hunger in our community. We are proud to be part of an event that showcases creativity, teamwork, and generosity!

Hispanic Heritage Month is an annual celebration of the history and culture of the U.S. Latino and Hispanic communities. Hispanic Heritage Month 2024 will last from Sunday, September 15, 2024 through Tuesday, October 15, 2024. The month commemorates how those communities have influenced and contributed to American society at large. #HispanicHeritageMonth

Inside Medicine is back and enrolling high school students for the school year! This free, virtual program is open to all high school students in the state of Maine who are interested in exploring a career in healthcare. Each session provides an opportunity to explore the fascinating world of medicine, solve mystery medical cases, and hear directly from healthcare professionals. Children with significant behavioral health needs continue to find themselves stuck in hospital emergency departments because of a lack of secure residential treatment options for them in Maine. As News Center Maine reports, a group dedicated to addressing this issue is now meeting weekly to create recommendations for the Legislature. https://bit.ly/47fxEco
