About us
The mission of the Maine Association of Nonprofits (MANP) is to enrich the quality of community and personal life in Maine by strengthening the leadership, voice, and organizational effectiveness of our state’s vital nonprofits. Advancing: MANP serves as a strong voice for the sector, researching, defending and promoting the sector’s impact in Maine, and empowering our members to do so as well. We develop and deliver training and resources to staff and volunteers of nonprofits across the state so that they can legally and effectively lobby on behalf of issues important to their missions. Connecting: MANP strives to create a vibrant community of nonprofits representing different regions, mission areas, and sizes. We connect leaders to one another and help organizations find and develop new talent. We facilitate connections across sectors, and convene nonprofit leaders to discuss critical issues facing the sector. Strengthening: MANP fosters a skilled, efficient and innovative sector. We provide guidance on management best practices and legal compliance, and offer high-quality trainings, resources and tools that enhance organizational governance and the recruitment, retention and professional development of nonprofit employees. We work to build the capacity of the sector to develop their existing and emerging leaders.

As the 2024 Election nears, make sure your nonprofit has policies in place to support civic engagement, such as paid time off to vote and serve as poll workers. Feel free to use MANP's policy as a template to adapt for your organization. Additional sample policies are available from Nonprofit Staff Vote. More importantly, review these policies with staff so they know their options. https://lnkd.in/ek6mwYkF

After decades of a confusing and unfair sales tax exemption system for 501(c)(3) nonprofits, Maine Association of Nonprofits helped to champion passage of a blanket sales tax exemption for charitable nonprofits across the state. Starting January 1, 2025, all charitable nonprofits in Maine will be eligible for sales tax exemption. Please join us on November 21st. Judy Methot, Director of the Sales, Fuel, and Special Tax Division of the Maine Revenue Services, will share about how the exemption will work and what steps nonprofits need to take. You need to hear the inspiring story of the new Tekαkαpimək Contact Station (Penobscot for "as far as one can see") in Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument, described by US Interior Secretary Deb Haaland as, "An endeavor unlike one we've ever seen before. It is extraordinary not only in the what - a beautiful space - but in the how… a deliberative and collaborative effort with Tribal Nations… You had to find a path and clear it too." Hear a collective story of the “Invisible Monument," our panelists’ behind the scenes perspectives and insights on what makes this ongoing partnership so successful. Join us on November 15 to learn more and be inspired to move from problem-solving to possibility by bringing people, ideas, and resources together and collectively becoming more creative, courageous, and inclusive.
