  • The Texas Conference for Women is a worthwhile investment!

The Texas Conference for Women has not disappointed me yet! In the last 5 years I’ve only missed one year and this year affirms why I keep attending. I initially started going at the recommendation of my now former colleagues at the City of Austin and continued to attend while working at Travis County. Fast forward several years and I now attend as the CEO of my own own company, Make the Change! The support for and from fellow women here is phenomenal! And, who doesn’t love being the same room as Tabitha Brown. #TXConfWomen

I had an awesome time with my colleagues representing Esolvit, Inc. at the City of Austin Small Business Connection Conference this morning. Next week, I’ll be virtual networking with the VA at their Veteran Small Business networking event. If there’s one thing I’ve learned as a small business entrepreneur, its that if you find the opportunity eventually the money will find you.

    More on work life balance…

I don’t know about you LinkedIn network, but this is what work/life balance looks like for me. Work: Reading and responding to emails. Answering unexpected phone calls. Managing projects. Daily meetings. Working with fun and inspiring people. Working with challenging people. Researching ways to help people grow. Advising leaders on how to strengthen their orgs. Developing and facilitating training. Building customer relationships. Writing proposals and reviewing contracts. Payroll processing and benefits administration. Managing a business as the sole owner. All other duties assigned and unassigned!! Life: Having a daughter as my broke best friend. Weekly visits to the doctor. Spending time with family and friends. Haunted houses (my fave!!) starting in September. Vacationing throughout the year. Stress and weight fluctuations. Maintaining a home and managing rental property. Balance: Accepting the good and not so good of both work and life. Knowing that although my work list may be longer, the life list is most memorable and more impactful. By the way, I facilitated that strategic planning session today. From the feedback I received, it went very well. My body held up and my mind delivered. And I was 100% my authentic self! Managing work and life IS a balancing act. Start giving yourself grace for that everyday.

Work/life balance. Is there really such a thing? Today, I spent nearly 2 hours getting an IV iron infusion. Week 2 out of 5 consecutive weeks of this. Tomorrow, I’ll rest as much as I can between work. Friday, I’ll facilitate a 2 hour Strategic Planning workshop for an audience of 100+. And I am excited! My mind says I’ll be ready. Let’s see what my body will say. Oh, and to answer my question, when you enjoy what you do, yes, I truly believe there is. Make the Change (MTC)

Fun times at Austin SHRM’s Scarlet Soirée last week. Congrats to all award recipients and nominees. It was so awesome to have MTC’s Social Media Manager, my daughter, Sanae, accompany me. Thanks Austin SHRM for allowing me the honor of serving as an awards judge again this year. You rock!

Please help me wish a happpy birthday to the man with many plans and a compass to guide him, The FedPROPEL Institute’s founder and CEO, Richard Hanks. 🎂 Chief Strategist and COO of MMC Consulting, a dynamic girl dad, superstar husband to Jennifer Hanks, knowledgeable mentor of so many things, an Alpha man, and my family, he’s worth every birthday wish. Happy birthday, Rich! And thank you for blessing so many lives and making us all just a tad “Rich”er. 😉 🥳
