Tuesday was AAPI Night at the Brooklyn Nets season opening game at Barclays Center. Make Us Visible New York was invited to share about their work and enjoy the game in a VIP suite alongside Heart of Dinner 愛心餐. Basketball fans got to test their knowledge with AAPI trivia and win coloring books, stickers, and whistles from The Yellow Whistle. The excitement at the MUV NY table was at the level of Linsanity! (Jeremy Lin was one of our trivia answers 😁) Thank you to Dylan Prada of BSE Global/Barclays Center for having us as part of AAPI Night. Also, a shout out to our MUV Digital Communications Coordinator Jamie Li, MSW, who was in town from Florida and captured the fun night. [Video description: A montage of video and photo. The Make Us Visible New York table is set up in the walkway outside the court and seating. Coloring book pages, stickers, and propped up signs are displayed on the table. Volunteers interact with attendees, asking trivia questions, and excitedly cheering when they get the questions right. Attendees of all ages smile and pose with their gifted coloring books.] Christine Huang Helen S. Make Us Visible
Civic and Social Organizations
We empower local communities to build curriculum and advocate for the integration of Asian American history.
About us
Make Us Visible activates and empowers local communities to build curriculum and advocate for the integration of Asian American contributions, experiences, and histories in K-12 classrooms. Our movement began with a conversation about education and public safety between two parents and a teacher back in January 2021. Today, our state chapters continue to be 100% volunteer-driven and have successfully passed state-wide education bills, empowered Asian Americans to serve in local public office, and strengthened communities across districts and states.

Last month, Make Us Visible PA co-director Kenneth J. Hong and Make Us Visible VA director Chi Connie Park attended the White House Initiative on Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders Policy Summit at the Norman Mineta Building in Washington, DC. They got to hear from Apex for Youth ambassador and former MUV education intern Jason Wong on the Youth Changemakers Forum discussing youth mental health. They also heard from AAPI Youth Rising founder and MUV advisory board member Mina Fedor on the same panel. The two MUV state chapters got to connect while hearing about how the federal government is partnering with AANHPI-serving organizations to advance our community's interests. Everyone in attendance made impactful connections, witnessed important conversations, and got inspired by our young AANHPI leaders! [Video description: A slideshow of photos. Seeing the need to provide education reflective of all students, Delawareans testified in support of SB 297, which requires the teaching of AANHPI history as well as other racial, ethnic, and cultural histories in the state's K-12 classrooms. The bill was signed into law on September 26, 2024 with MUV Delaware volunteers as part of the historic moment. Delaware is now the 7th state to require AANHPI history in K-12 classrooms, after IL, NJ, CT, RI, FL, and WI. Congrats to all the volunteers, parents, teachers, students, and community-based organizations who came together to make this happen! Over 125 AANHPI-serving organizations across New York have come together urging the NY State Legislature to pass a law requiring the inclusion of AANHPI history in K-12 classrooms across the state. The organizations agree that this is a necessary step in bolstering the mental health and sense of belonging of AANHPI students. For all New Yorkers, it would foster a stronger sense of community and shared history, underlining the struggles and values that connect all of us as Americans. Orlando's first Blasian Book Fair in September was a historic day for community, unity, and literacy! Over 220 folks came together to celebrate Black, Asian, and Blasian literary voices by enjoying performances, panels, and free books for all (over 330 books were taken home!). Last year, Make Us Visible Florida successfully championed the passage of a bipartisan bill to require the teaching of Asian American and Pacific Islander history in K-12 classrooms across the state. Since then, the team has focused on implementation by creating an engaging activity book and organizing the Blasian Book Fair to distribute free educational resources. Books from the day are already being used in classrooms. MUV FL looks forward to continuing this work together to ensure all students learn more about our histories! Blasian Book Fair was organized by Make Us Visible Florida and Blasian March in partnership with Kizzy's Books & More, FusionFest, and A Perfect Union Art Gallery. Blasian Book Fair was made possible by an amazing group of volunteers, special guests, authors, organizations, and in-kind donors coming together. Thank you to each and everyone of you! #MakeUsVisible #BlasianBookFair #Florida #Orlando #Bookstagram [Video description: A montage of video and photo from Blasian Book Fair, held inside a large, day-lit area of a mall.
