Together, we create life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses.
About us
Make-A-Wish creates life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses. Since 1980, Make-A-Wish has granted more than 500,000 wishes worldwide with the help of more than 43,000 volunteers across 50 countries on five continents. The Make-A-Wish Greater Bay Area chapter was founded in 1984 and has granted more than 9,000 wishes in its 40-year history. The chapter covers 17 Northern California counties: Alameda, Contra Costa, Del Norte, Humboldt, Lake, Mendocino, Napa, Marin, Monterey, San Benito, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Cruz, Santa Clara, Siskiyou, Solano and Sonoma. Research shows children who have wishes granted build the physical and emotional strength needed to fight a critical illness. This can improve their quality of life and produce better health outcomes. Wishes can’t happen without community support, so thank you for supporting and sharing our mission so every eligible child can have their wish granted.

"For Bloom, it was a day that not only honored her sister but offered a chance for her to give back to a group that played an important role in allowing her family to experience joy during a painful and challenging time." Don't miss the KTVU 2 feature on Cal women’s soccer defender Cailin Bloom and her dedication of the Cal Women's Soccer versus Duke Women's Soccer to Make-A-Wish Greater Bay Area in honor of her sister, Samantha. Make-A-Wish granted Samantha's wish to go to the Bahamas and be a dolphin trainer for a day. After going into remission in 2016, Samantha's cancer returned a few years later and she passed away in 2019. With nearly 1,400 attendees, the game featured custom-designed jerseys for the players, food sales, and a raffle—Cailin's efforts raised $7,515 for children facing critical illnesses in the greater Bay Area. "I felt like she was there the entire time," says Cailin of the day and her sister's memory. "I was so motivated, and I just looked around, and I just saw her everywhere." Thank you Cailin, the Cal women’s soccer team, Cal Bears, IB's, and fans for joining us in celebrating Samantha and bringing hope and joy to more wish kids like her. ⚽ 🐬 💙 💛 Read more: https://lnkd.in/gpJbCqRb #FeelGoodFriday
