For better or worse, artificial intelligence (AI) is here to stay. Those in the access-to-justice community are looking for ways to ethically harness its potential to help better serve clients and to reduce justice gaps by expanding access to legal services. The development and use of these tools go beyond the headlines relating to ChatGPT and other generative AI, as their use in a legal practice raise a number of significant ethical questions and concerns for lawyers engaged in the delivery of legal services to those of limited means. Join MIE and the ABA Standing Committee on Legal Aid and Indigent Defense for For Better or Worse: Ethical Use of AI for Legal Aid Providers Thursday, November 7, 1 - 2:30 PM ET For full details, faculty, more information on this webinar and online registration, visit

MIE is pleased to announce the upcoming webinar Advancing Excellence and Equity through Feedback Data presented by Listen4Good, October 10, 2 - 3:00 PM ET. Legal aid providers need great data to do great work. For example, data that tells you whether your clients feel up-to-date on their cases. Data that tells you what your volunteers are experiencing. Data that tells you what’s working well with virtual and in-person meeting operations, and what’s working not so well. In this interactive workshop, we will share how legal aid organizations across the country have used client feedback for fundraising, strategic decision-making, and advancing equity goals. We will share best practices and lessons learned, including survey design, data collection techniques, confidentiality, reporting, visualization, and change management. You still have time to register before tomorrow's deadline for this week's webinar with Rosie Dawn Griffin and Scott Sheffler, Feldesman Leifer LLP: Negotiated Indirect Cost Rate Agreements August 29, 2 - 4 pm ET. For full details and to register online now, visit https://lnkd.in/dYbrVzRb
MIE is pleased to partner again with Feldesman Leifer, LLP, to offer the webinar: Negotiated Indirect Cost Rate Agreements, August 29, 2 - 4 PM ET. The full utility of an indirect cost rate agreement is often underappreciated. In this session we will explain the purpose of indirect cost rate agreements, options that grantees have to use them, choose between types, or not use them at all, and the compliance considerations relevant to indirect cost rate proposals. Often viewed as just another administrative task, preparation of an effective indirect cost rate proposal is a very useful tool in enhancing a grantee’s compliance profile. Join this training for a detailed discussion of the “ins and outs” of indirect rates, including both (i) common pitfalls and (ii) their (often unexpected) usefulness in establishing additional compliance safeguards.
