About us
Reflecting the vision of the Civil Rights Movement, Manhattan Country School teaches students in a community with no racial majority and broad economic diversity. Our goals for students are academic excellence, intellectual freedom, social awareness, self-confidence, and firsthand knowledge of the natural world. MCS is unique among NYC independent schools in having a 180-acre working farm integral to the curriculum and a slide scale for tuition.

Our sixth graders were fired up for their first field trip of the school year! Field trips and activism are an integral part of our curriculum. Today, our sixth graders traveled to BRIC in Brooklyn to see Unbossed & Unbowed, an interactive one woman show about Shirley Chisholm, the first African-American woman to run for President of the United States. Thank you to parent and MCS Alum ‘94, Viviana Benitez for inviting our sixth graders to this performance and to our parent chaperones Tanya Birl-Torres and Hye Young Han for joining our students today. Quinn said, “It was really fun. I really liked seeing how the actor acted out all the different characters and all the people which I thought was cool. And she would switch voices, posture and position. I would recommend it. It was really good!” Sixth graders said they would see it again.
