#maricrail firstly, Mr Timothy Batan, Undersecretary - Planning & Project Development, DOTr Philippines, gave an excellent presentation on the Philippines Transport Master Plan. It’s amazing what they are doing in expanding their railway development here. Their President’s national call for action is “Build Better and More” (B.B.M.) and “Full Speed Ahead”. Awesome! Secondly, what came as a huge and pleasant surprise was when I asked him about empowering local companies and their involvement in the many rail projects. As I introduced myself, he remarked that “it’s good that you introduce yourself from MARIC. For our local industry development, we are looking at MARIC as our benchmark!” Another awesome! How did that came about? I didn’t have the chance to really asked him after his session since he was swarmed by other participants. Maybe I would be able to ask him when I meet him some other time. One thing for sure, his statement calls for MARIC to quickly review and improve itself further. Thank you Bricsa Consulting for the opportunity to connect and share our thoughts and efforts. #malaysiaboleh #railsystem #ministryoftransport #localcontent #technologytransfer #technologysovereignty

#maricrail spent the whole of yesterday at the APAC 2024 - Transit Ticketing and Fares System conference in Singapore. Thank you, #globalmasstransit for the kind invitation for me to participate and speak at the conference. Sharing MARIC’s viewpoint via the presentation entitled “Navigating the challenge of establishing an integrated fare collection system for multimodal transport in Malaysia”. It was a thrill to meet the Malaysian rail players from ERL, KTMB, Prasarana, Asia Mobiliti, Handal Indah and SEEE related to the theme. Also, meeting with other participants from Hong Kong Metro, Siemens Mobility, Mastercard, Translink, and others. Today, Rehan Merchant of ST Engineering-Urban Mobility was kind enough to take me to his ‘campus’ and gave me a briefing and demo a few products for my benefit. It increases my understanding of urban mobility - hardware and software. I was impressed to see the width and breath of ST Engineering range of products and the 5 continents it is serving, including Malaysia. We both went to meet Irza and Sue Yuin of #AIBP for lunch at the Coconut Cafe, Beach Road. We managed to eat (the best nasi lemak in Singapore) while discussing topics of mutual interest. Unexpectedly, it happens that Sue Yuin and Rehan have met before, circa 2019. With a photo in the phone as proof. Thanks Irza for the gift of book 📕 🙏🏽 I’m now at Changi Airport Terminal 2 waiting for the flight back home. #railsystems #upminnovations #malaysiaboleh #partnership

#innotrans2024 greetings from all the Malaysian private sector delegation in Berlin. Plus the wonderful and helpful MATRADE’s officers. I’m happy to share that we had an excellent first day at Innotrans, under our own umbrella pavilion which houses the Malaysian companies under one roof. The pavilion was full of Malaysians and our partners from more than 5 countries as we started our event with the singing of our national anthem, “Negara-ku”. We sang the words with pride and nationalistic fervour. H.E. Ambassador of Malaysia to Germany gave her welcoming remarks in German before moving to English. Commendable! In the front row was the YM Raja Muda Perlis, two Tan Sris each from DMIA and Hartasuma and the Deputy CEO of MATRADE. After her wonderful speech, it was my turn to deliver the Opening Remarks. For me, the Malaysian coordinated presence at Innotrans 2024 was a significant milestone for both MARIC and Malaysia. We achieved a few firsts: 1. For the first time, we are exhibiting as one under the Malaysian Pavilion @ MATRADE; 2. We launched the first Malaysia Rail Industry Directory which was ‘sold-out’ in 2 hours time; 3. MARIC’s membership crossed the 65 line for the first time; and 4. Huawei Rail became our first multinational member. Moving on, the event highlights were the several MOUs exchange which will strategically put our companies in many markets including Australia, China, India, Indonesia, Japan and South Korea. The local companies have been tirelessly working to seek businesses from just about anywhere, and succeed. The Malaysian pavilion continues to receive delegations from other countries until almost closing time. We were quite exhausted but very happy inside. It was indeed a very productive day for all of us. So far today, I’ve only been able to tour Hall 9 and 10. Altogether, there are 27 halls of exhibitions plus the outdoor static displays. Maybe, there’ll be time tomorrow. A partner from a German company said it took them 20 minutes to walk from their booth to ours, and point to their sweaty foreheads. I repeat, it’s huge! Some lucky patrons managed to grab buggies to take them from one hall to the other. Somebody important remarked, “Malaysia has finally arrived” as our presence were really felt and being part of the global supply chain. It was satisfying to hear. A few even committed that, at the next Innotrans, we will have a much bigger pavilion, with more companies and products. It’s just common sense as Innotrans is the biggest and most important rail exhibition in the world! Thank you to all VVIP attendees. Congratulations to all who have found excellent partners for their journey forward. #maricrail #railsystems #malaysiaboleh #matrade #makeithappen

#innotrans2024 To me and also the majority of rail systems companies in Malaysia, as well as the global rail players, INNOTRANS is the rail equivalent to the Farnborough and Paris Airshow for the aerospace sector. Fortunately, I have been to all 3. It’s a huge event, the most significant in the world I would say, organised in Berlin every two years, huge in terms of number of exhibition halls and outdoor static displays of every type of train from every manufacturers you can imagine, current and futuristic. For that matter, we at MARIC has been planning for this event for the last two years. Together with MATRADE, we agreed to put the Malaysian companies showcasing their products and services under one roof ie. the “Malaysian Pavilion” or “Astaka” for the first time ever. In previous Innotrans, the few Malaysian companies booths are spread all over the place. For Innotrans 2024, 10 rail systems companies under MARIC will be participating under the Malaysian Pavilion, flying our ‘jalur gemilang’. We have planned so many interesting activities in our 4-day program. At Innotrans 2024, we are focusing on showcasing our rail systems parts and components, as well as services, to German and other potential buyers. These arrangements have been in the making for many months now as the Europeans are looking to create a new supply chain of parts and components from our region. During the event, MARIC will be launching the first Malaysia Rail Industry Directory, in collaboration with RAC and MIGHT. The Directory which will be distributed here will help to introduce Malaysian companies, especially those who cannot be here, their products and services, to the other countries and their companies. This is our commitment to the nation. To showcase the best from us. Because we understand that the survival and development of our rail industry rests with our capability and competitiveness to produce quality and innovative products / services not just for the local market but also for the global market due to the current uncertainty and limited local opportunities. Already, several of our companies have managed to secure businesses overseas. Therefore, the public - private partnership is most critical in sustaining and strengthening the Malaysian rail industry’s existence and to extend our business reach beyond our shores. A thriving local rail industry is necessary and important for the country’s technology sovereignty and independence. Whatever the situation will be, MARIC is ready to lead the charge. Insyallah. See you at Innotrans 2024. #maricrail #railsystems #innotrans2024 #mightmalaysia #railwayassetscorporation #malaysiaboleh

#maricrail shares a conversation with the CEO and the top management of Railway Assets Corporation (RAC) and Railway Assets Holding Sdn Bhd (RAHSB) on Tuesday morning. The CEO Dato’ Azhar Ahmad shared with the MARIC team his vision and aspirations of making the rail industry an important sector of the economy and developing the capability and capacity of the local industry players. And, he is looking forward to work with MARIC to make the rail industry a priority sector for the country and increasing the local players’ competitiveness in order to bid for international tenders. MARIC offers its platform for maximum engagement with industry players including OEMs and relevant institutions to RAC. On the immediate front, MARIC and RAC will work together to make Malaysia’s presence at INNOTRANS 2024 in Berlin this September impactful and an eye-opener to other countries. MARIC extends its appreciation and gratitude to Dato’ CEO Azhar, COO Mr Ramesh Balakrishnan and COO Ms Lena for the excellent discussion and kind hospitality. • I'm so glad that we at MARIC was able to organise this #conversation in the guise of a dinner amidst the busy schedules of our members and attendees. The chat was free flow, light and friendly. One of the attendees was saying "I didn't expect it to be so casual and friendly ... the CEOs that came were so down-to-earth ... people listened to each other. It was simply unexpected and so amazing". I believe we need more of this type of conversation. Openness, mutual respect and increase understanding of each other. The essence of building trust and friendship in business and life. #maricrail #railsignalling #conversation Regards, MARIC President

  • Our MARIC's aspiration for 2024-2046 It took me a while to post this update on MARIC. We were involved in numerous activities and events including the Asia Pacific Rail 2024 in Bangkok and the ASEAN Senior Transportation Officers Meeting (STOM) in Penang. MARIC is slowly but surely being recognised as the GO-TO organisation for international events organisers and Ministries to provide multi-systems and wide support for their programs. #throwback We concluded our 4th Annual General Meeting on May 10th, 2024 which was held at the Everly Hotel in Putrajaya. It was well attended by members and guests alike and displayed a unique ambience of close camaraderie and friendship. A guest who was there remarked "as an invited observer, I was impressed by the vibrancy and the strong interactions among the MARIC members ... look forward to becoming a member of MARIC". The election of Council members for the 2024-2026 term was also concluded as one of the main agenda of the AGM. The new line-up consists of fresh and old faces which I believe will strengthen the organisation further. The Council meets quarterly and members are expected to provide ideas, new programs and steer MARIC as an effective "voice of the rail industry" as well as championing the development of local capabilities and capacities, sustainability and close collaboration with the public sector. It was agreed that two focus areas in the rail systems ie. signalling and rolling stock (ET) would be given the priority for implementation in 2024. Speaking of priority, MARIC will lead the discussion with the Government to make the rail industry as a "Priority Sector" comparable to the aerospace industry. After all, the rail infrastructure investments are huge and make up a big chunk of the nations's development expenditure. It is heartening that MOSTI has taken the right step in recognising rail as a priority for R&D. The Minister of Transport has also remarked a few times about "more rail than road" infrastructure. It is the right time for the nation to recognise the rail industry as a priority sector, rail systems as a leverage for technology empowerment and sovereignty, and the catalyst for trans-border economic and socio-development and ASEAN ++ unity. We have a big and significant task ahead. We cannot just rely on our own strength but rather collaborate and partner with like-minded organisations that will multiply our strength and enhance our reach within and beyond Malaysia. We need a new roadmap for the nation's current and future rail development to ensure equitable and sustainable growth, create high skill jobs and high value business opportunities, inter-industry synergy and integration, and develop global players through aggressive marketing and consolidation. I invite all of you to join us and participate in our quest to transform the rail industry to ensure our nation's future growth and prosperity. #maricrail #railinnovation #mosti #mot Warm regards, President, MARIC
