Special thanks to the newly formed Marietta Police Foundation for organizing and hosting a family fun day at Tumlin Park. Part of what makes Marietta so special is the community partnership that extends between residents, business owners, and MPD. We are truly fortunate to have the support! 𝘾𝙊𝙉𝙂𝙍𝘼𝙏𝙐𝙇𝘼𝙏𝙄𝙊𝙉𝙎! On August 14th, members of the Marietta Police Department were in attendance at the annual ASIS International law enforcement awards luncheon to support their colleagues who had been nominated for awards. MPD winners included Detective Clark and Officer Thomas who each received the ASIS Excellence in Investigations Award and Sgt. Conklin who received the ASIS Valor in Action Award. Founded in 1955, ASIS International is a global community of security practitioners, each of whom has a role in the protection of assets - people, property, and/or information. We are fortunate to have such hard working dedicated individuals protecting our community! #helpingothers #awardwinner #protectandserve #MariettaPD #awardwinners #publicsafety #mariettaga #community

Please join us as we stop and remember two men who dedicated their lives to serving and protecting our community. Former MPD Sergeant and longtime Cobb County Sheriff Bill Hutson (pictured left) passed away on August 2nd. He left the MPD in 1977 after 11 years of services as a Patrol Officer and Detective Sergeant. He then went on to become the longest serving Cobb County Sheriff from 1977 to 2003. Sheriff Hutson had a reputation of honesty, integrity, and being a firm but fair Sheriff. He was laid to rest August 8, 2024. Retired Marietta PD Assistant Chief Rupert Raines (pictured right) passed away on August 5th. He retired in 1985 after a long and distinguished career with our department. Rupert, always smiling and happy to meet you, remained a public supporter of everything "Marietta" throughout his entire life. His funeral will take place this afternoon, August 9, 2024. Please keep their families in your thoughts and prayers. The positive impact they both made on our community is a lasting legacy that continues to influence public safety to this day.

Our team is growing! Three new recruits in this class, and three more starting in the August academy. 😎 Want to know more about open positions? https://lnkd.in/gjYzk99
Had the privilege to teach the (8) hour communications block to BLETC class 365 at our regional academy North Central Georgia Law Enforcement Academy today. Such a pleasure meeting all these new faces who answered the call to serve! Hard to believe I was in class 288. (77 academy classes ago). Snapped this quick pic while they were in formation preparing for the pledge of allegiance this morning. Even better, (3) are new hires for Marietta Police Department! Are you taking time to mentor the next generation? Trust me, I learn something new every time… choose to share what you have learned on YOUR journey.

𝘼𝙬𝙖𝙧𝙙 𝙤𝙛 𝙀𝙭𝙘𝙚𝙡𝙡𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚! NICE WORK K-9 Barney & SRO Hill! Yesterday MPD was named the 2024 recipient of the “Dr. Curtis E. McClung / Motorola Award of Excellence” by the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police (GACP). This award, which is co-sponsored by the Motorola Corporation, is given to an agency in recognition of an innovative program initiated by a department that fosters law enforcement excellence. We were nominated and selected for our “Crisis Intervention K-9 Program (Barney).” In case you missed it, K-9 Barney joined MPD last year and is assigned to his partner, SRO Hill. The team is primarily used to assist children while they are attending class in one of the Marietta City Schools. When time allows, the team also visits pediatric surgical patients at Wellstar Health System Kennestone Hospital as well as assists the shifts with mental health related calls. The award is named in honor of Dr. Curtis McClung of Columbus, who is credited with bringing Georgia’s law enforcement community into the modern era while also assisting the GACP in its pursuit of excellence, especially with respect to management training. #crisisresponse #crisisresponsecanine #crisisresponsedog #forthekids #k9handler #k9 #k9dogs #helpingothers #awardwinner #protectandserve #MariettaPD #awardwinners #k9unit #publicsafety #mariettaga #community Motorola Solutions Motorola Mobility (a Lenovo Company)

Our new Wellness officer in action! PREVENTION instead of reaction. 💡 Last night officer Moeller-Reed organized a family night with our most recent batch of recruits. The new officers and their families joined officer Moeller-Reed and the command staff for dinner and a presentation on the stressors of the job along with preventative measures to combat that stress. Topics such as resiliency, prevention, and the importance of a support system were at the forefront of the evening’s discussion. These recruits are getting ready to start field training and the goal is to set them up for long term success. ❤️💯 Special thanks to the local families that coordinated the delivery of delicious catered food! #MariettaPD #MariettaPolice #mariettaga #mpd #educationmatters #helpingothers #mentoringmatters #protectandserve #publicsafety #community #mindfulness #mindfulnesspractice #mentalhealthsupport #mentalwellness International Association of Chiefs of Police
