Please join us as we stop and remember two men who dedicated their lives to serving and protecting our community. Former MPD Sergeant and longtime Cobb County Sheriff Bill Hutson (pictured left) passed away on August 2nd. He left the MPD in 1977 after 11 years of services as a Patrol Officer and Detective Sergeant. He then went on to become the longest serving Cobb County Sheriff from 1977 to 2003. Sheriff Hutson had a reputation of honesty, integrity, and being a firm but fair Sheriff. He was laid to rest August 8, 2024. Retired Marietta PD Assistant Chief Rupert Raines (pictured right) passed away on August 5th. He retired in 1985 after a long and distinguished career with our department. Rupert, always smiling and happy to meet you, remained a public supporter of everything "Marietta" throughout his entire life. His funeral will take place this afternoon, August 9, 2024. Please keep their families in your thoughts and prayers. The positive impact they both made on our community is a lasting legacy that continues to influence public safety to this day.
Awww, Rupert used to be our neighbor. The world has lost a couple of good ones.
Thoughts and prayers with all their love ones
Two great men! They will be missed!
