🌱 Building the capacity of market actors to transform learning 🔄 Through our Locus of Learning initiative, developed with the USAID Feed the Future Market Systems and Partnerships (MSP) Activity led by DAI, we’re establishing localized learning as a foundation of systems change. The Shifting the Locus of Learning brief makes the case that programs can and should shift the locus of learning from solely program-focused to system-focused. 🌟 This means building the capacity of market actors (firms and other organizations) first, in order to help systems better learn and adapt on their own. 🔗 View strategies from the brief: https://lnkd.in/gRrTGjnR Embedding learning within systems is proven to lead to deeper, more lasting impacts. MSA is excited to continue advancing the Locus of Learning with MSP and DAI, including development of the Learning in Action Toolkit. Stay tuned for more updates on how to get involved in the ongoing Locus of Learning development! #SystemsChange #Learning #GlobalDev

🌍 Curious to learn more about the country-level impacts highlighted in our recently published ex-post synthesis brief? ⬇️ Here’s a snapshot of systemic outcomes from the Ghana ex-post study within the agricultural sector. Three years after the ADVANCE II Activity ended: ✅ Outgrower businesses continue to operate and expand as a formal business unit providing a range of services to the smallholder farmer ✅ Input companies recognize that there is a profitable business case for promoting quality inputs to remote farmers in northern Ghana. ✅ Buyers and processors consider northern Ghana as a major and consistent source of high-quality cereals. ❌ Barriers to agriculture financing have not been resolved. Three and a half years after the Naatal Mbay program closure: 📈 FIVE more value chains outside of the Senegalese rice sector have adapted the integrated finance model, with 37% more companies accessing 377% more inventory backed lending. 🚀 The efforts of Naatal Mbay also spurred the development of a new collateral-based lending system after program closure, allowing farmers better access to credit after harvest. 📊 Unlocking long-term impact: The power of ex-post evaluations in Market Systems Development (MSD) 🔎 Through MSA's partnership with Feed the Future Market Systems and Partnerships (MSP) and DAI, we’ve leveraged ex-post evaluations to uncover the long-term impacts of MSD interventions after project closure. Our latest synthesis brief highlights and visualizes key findings from ex-post studies in Ghana and Senegal. A few takeaways to consider: 🕒 Systemic change takes time – Often building on earlier successes over many years, with the majority of results emerging later in the project lifecycle. ✔️ Trust is essential – Building trust among market actors is fundamental for sustaining long-term changes in market relationships. 🎯 Focus on core market drivers – Addressing market failures leads to longer-lasting, systemic change rather than short-term fixes like asset subsidies. Check out the full brief to learn what outcomes endured, what fell short, and how much scale and benefit was achieved for target populations. ➡️ https://lnkd.in/g4GzB_qi More ex-post insights will be released in early 2026 with findings from Bangladesh, the DRC, and Mozambique! Thank you to Ben Fowler, Marrium Khan, and Khaled Khan at MSA for compiling this brief, conducted through USAID’s Feed the Future Market Systems and Partnerships (MSP) Activity led by DAI. The ex-post series is overseen at MSP by Anna Garloch, and the series benefits greatly from the support of a technical advisory committee Kristin O'Planick at USAID/REFS, Rachel Shah at Mercy Corps, and Tatiana Pulido in USAID’s PSE Hub. #ExPost #SystemsChange #GlobalDev
