Lisa Han's article offers a detailed and insightful look at the evolution of voice AI technology and how it's moving us closer to deeper, more meaningful human-machine interactions. Definitely worth a read for anyone interested in the future of Conversational AI
When Her hit theaters more than ten years ago, the idea of building an emotional connection with a voice-driven AI seemed far-fetched. Well, fast forward to today, and that fantasy is looking more like a blueprint for what's to come. Since ChatGPT's launch, we've seen rapid advancements, especially in voice AI. While companies have used voice applications to communicate with customers for decades, we’re now entering a new era where software can engage in human-like conversations. With advancements improving key aspects like latency, tonality, and responsiveness, the voice applications market is expected to grow by 4X or more. Currently, AI-driven voice apps rely on three core architectures: one for converting speech to text (STT), another for interpreting the text (TTT), and a third for generating intelligent responses through text-to-speech (TTS). In the short term, success will come from focusing on specific verticals like healthcare and hospitality. In the long term, AI-driven voice apps are anticipated to integrate into broader SaaS platforms, dramatically expanding the market’s potential. I have read and enjoyed many Paul Graham’s thought provoking posts throughout the years. One also hears many YC stories working at Airbnb and DoorDash. It has been such an honor to be a part of the YC W24 batch advised by Gustaf Alströmer 🇺🇦, Brad Flora, Dalton Caldwell, David Lieb, and Garry Tan. Excited to bring AI-voice agents that are indistinguishable from human to many industries worldwide. I am also humbled to work with my excellent colleagues from Vlingo and Airbnb again, Dave Grannan, Ghinwa Choueiter, Eric Thayer, and Brie LeDain. My investors, Rafael Corrales, Max Mullen, Yuri Sagalov, Waikit L., and Oliver Jay, thank you for your trust! - Han
Marr Labs (YC W24) makes AI-voice agents that are indistinguishable from humans, with task-specific roles like scheduling, sales, customer service, and more. Their first product is the Vox Scheduling Agent targeted at the Home Services Industry where every lost call is a lost revenue opportunity. For contractors, plumbers, electricians, and other service providers, voicemails and phone tag frustrate customers and lead to lost business. Take a listen to a live Vox call below. Marr Labs was founded by Han Shu and Dave Grannan, who previously partnered to create Vlingo, the speech tech that powered Siri and created Samsung's Siri competitor, S-Voice. Now, with the development of LLMs, they have created an entirely new platform that can take original voice agents like Siri from robotic to human, which is a game changer.
