Early detection saves lives. Just ask Christopher Hitchens, Sr. Two months after turning 50, Chris went in for a routine colonoscopy. He felt perfectly healthy, but doctors found Stage 4 cancer. Thanks to that screening and the expert care he received at Mary Bird Perkins, Chris is now cancer-free. 🙌 His story is proof that getting screened on time can change everything. Read more about Chris’s journey and why he’s encouraging others not to delay: https://lnkd.in/gSKS5-b4 #EarlyDetection #MaryBirdPerkins #ColorectalCancerAwareness

Earlier this month, members of our team attended The Alliance for Equity in Cancer Care annual meeting in Richmond. Nicole Honore, Project Manager for The Alliance, and Angela Hammett, Senior Director of Support Services and Patient Experience, shared how our patient navigation program has progressed since the initiative began in 2023. Charles Daniel II, founder of Geaux Ride and member of our local Community Advisory Board, also joined the conference and participated in a panel discussion focused on community engagement. Supported by the Merck Foundation, The Alliance is a national initiative working to advance health equity by improving access to high-quality, culturally responsive cancer care for patients in underserved communities. Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center is proud to be part of this important work, with efforts centered on enhancing patient-centered care in North Baton Rouge through multi-level interventions. #HealthEquity #CancerCare #PatientNavigation #MaryBirdPerkins #TheAllianceForEquityInCancerCare #CommunityEngagement

🌱🍓 Happy National Nutrition Month! 🍓🌱 We’re celebrating by highlighting the great work of Jordan Davis, MS, RDN, LDN, our dedicated dietitian at Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center in Hammond. Jordan recently led a food demonstration, teaching patients how to make healthy mini fruit pizzas, a delicious and nutritious treat perfect for spring! These fruit pizzas feature a gluten-free sugar cookie crust, whipped Greek yogurt, and fresh fruit, offering a satisfying balance of fiber and protein. Simple to make and ideal for any gathering, they were a hit with our patients! Thank you, Jordan, for your commitment to promoting healthy eating and nutrition in our community. ❤️

We are excited to announce that The Echo Alliance Baton Rouge’s 2025 funding project is "Bringing Low-Dose Lung Cancer Screenings to Women at Risk." Led by Krystal Kirby, Ph.D., DABR, MRSE, imaging medical physicist, and Echo Alliance member, the project’s goal is to increase awareness, improve access to screenings and SAVE LIVES. ❤️ Lung cancer is the #1 cause of cancer deaths in women, taking more lives than breast, ovarian and cervical cancers combined. This innovative and forward-thinking project will help more women get scans, which can find lung cancer early when it is easier to treat, leading to better outcomes. Stay tuned for updates as we work to bring this important resource to our community! To learn more about how you can join The Echo Alliance, visit https://lnkd.in/ey_R_g8K
