The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends pediatricians screen all youths ages 12 years and older for suicide risk at least annually and discourages pediatricians from solely using the PHQ’s item 9 as a suicide risk screening tool. https://bit.ly/4dH4XaG

CDC resources help pediatricians have effective conversations with families during developmental surveillance. CDC’s Learn the Signs. Act Early. program has FREE resources for pediatricians for conducting developmental surveillance and having conversations with parents about developmental progress. The materials, also available in Spanish, can be added to websites and patient portals. The resources can be customized to include your contact information.
