October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM). NDEAM celebrates workers with disabilities. This year's #NDEAM theme is "Access to Good Jobs for All." Throughout October, our Council members will share why NDEAM is important to them. Today, Council member Jarred Jones talks about why it is important for people with and without disabilities to work together.

The 2024 election is less than a month away! To help you prepare, the Maryland Disabilities Forum is hosting a Senate Candidate Forum. U.S. Senate candidates Angela Alsobrooks and Larry Hogan will answer questions about issues that are important to people with disabilities and their families. The event will be on Zoom on Tuesday, October 22 from 12 pm (noon) to 1:15 pm. Spanish translation, ASL interpretation, and CART captioning will be provided. Our Council staff and members had a great time at the 15th Annual Maryland Works Employment Awards Luncheon earlier this week. This year's National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM) theme is "Access to Good Jobs for All." Marylanders with developmental disabilities deserve access to good jobs in the community. So many people at this event shared stories about why that is important. What a great way to start off #NDEAM!

Earlier this month, we helped celebrate the 17th anniversary of the Maryland Department of Health Money Follow the Person (MFP) program. MFP helps Marylanders with disabilities live in the community setting of their choice. Learn more about the MFP program at https://lnkd.in/eyGfH7uV

I had the honor of representing MACS alongside Dr. Stephanie Dolamore from the Maryland Developmental Disabilities Council and Dominique Palmer from The Arc Maryland on a panel at The Arc Central Chesapeake Region’s Living Boldly Self-Advocacy Annual Meeting in Annapolis today. During our discussion, we highlighted key developments from the 2024 legislative session that impact the disability community, shared strategies on how people can make their voices heard and engage in the legislative process, and provided insights on what to anticipate in the 2025 legislative session. It was an inspiring event, and I'm grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with such passionate advocates.
