About us

Language shapes how business is done and the world is run. The ability to inspire audiences and compel them to act begins with a simple but powerful premise: It’s not what you say that matters, it’s what they hear. At maslansky + partners, we make sure you’re heard exactly as you intend, and that what you say matters. That is how you win. The way we do it is through Language Strategy, the singular discipline of finding precisely the right words to change behavior and move an audience to action. Combining our roles as researchers, strategists, and writers, we frame your language and provide the specific wording to shift behavior in your favor. Think of our firm when you need to lift your brand, reframe your reputation, energize an issue, introduce a product, restore trust, navigate a crisis, differentiate yourself, or simplify the complex. We make a big impact on how winning organizations communicate, from Fortune 500 companies to trade associations to nonprofits around the world. Don’t wonder which words will help you win. Be sure of it. That's maslansky + partners.

Love it when our people--and our #LanguageStrategy principles--can have such an impact in helping others communicate more clearly and effectively. Thanks for sharing, Carey - and cheers to Catherine Farr!

Do you work for a utility or an electric company? If you want to communicate clearly with stakeholders, ditch the vague "utility" and go for the concrete -- "electric company," said Catherine Farr, Senior VP with maslansky + partners, at EUCI's Best Practices in Public Engagement Conference last week in Richmond, VA. Sounds simple, right? Too often I get caught up in the jargon. Farr pushed the 100+ people attending the conference to craft messages that work by being: - Plainspoken - Make the message easy to understand - Plausible - Make the message easy to agree with - Personal - Make your message easy to relate to - Positive - Make your message easy to like Kudos to Greg Mathe, Steve Precker and the Dominion Energy communications teams for pulling together engaging content that drew people in from across the country!

Great to connect with so many colleagues and new friends from research at #iaCRC recently in NYC! CRC was packed with insightful sessions, including several where m+p President Lee Carter presented or moderated—including one very timely panel on “Beyond Ballots: Shaping Post-Election Business Strategies”: a look at how the presidential election will impact consumers, brands, industries, and your business. And thanks to all who joined us for our happy hour! Need to make sure your language is connecting with your audience? Contact us. The #VPDebate offered a refreshing change from the combative tone that's plagued our political discourse in recent years. While that was a relief for many viewers, did either candidate do enough to change any votes? Lee Carter led a live voter focus group for Fox News Media Democracy24 during the debate, speaking with voters in real time about which candidates’ language strategy and messaging worked better. Check out her key takeaways in this new piece: https://bit.ly/3XUDA67 #LanguageStrategy #PoliticalLanguage #DebateRecap

It’s not a new phrase, but it certainly took center stage this week as the VP candidates squared off in their debate. “Midwest nice” (or “Midwestern nice”) is a cultural stereotype for Midwesterners as being unusually polite, reserved, friendly, and maybe a little passive aggressive. Whether it’s true or not, it felt like it applied to Vance and Walz during the debate as they took a cordial tone and repeatedly pointed out where they were in agreement. Thanks to Melanie Wilcox for sharing this one. #LanguageMoments #MidwestNice #VPDebate

From "stop the bleeding" to "I'm a knucklehead," there were some true language moments in the debate. Lee spoke with voters in real time about which candidate's language strategy and messaging worked better. Here are some of the key voter reactions from Lee’s focus group. #LanguageStrategy #PoliticalLanguage #DebateRecap

With millions of Americans impacted by #HurricaneHelene, how have the presidential candidates done in terms of responding to this extreme weather crisis? Lee Carter checked in with NewsNation Live last night to comment on this and other pressing election issues, including why Pennsylvania is such a critical election state, and the language Trump and Harris are using on the campaign trail vs. what people are actually hearing them say. Language matters, in elections and everywhere.   #LanguageStrategy #PresidentialElection #VoterPerceptions #PoliticalMessaging

Always great to see our m+p team in action! Congrats to Director Tegan Zeolla-Harcourt for presenting and participating at the HOW Design Live conference last week in Denver. Tegan’s session focused on getting into the mind of your audience—something we always preach, because it’s not what you say that matters… it’s what they hear. #LanguageStrategy #EffectiveCommunication #AudienceUnderstanding

What an incredible experience and opportunity presenting at HOW Design Live conference in Denver this week. With panel conversations at #HOWWomenLead, networking and community events, learning from other incredible leaders in the industry, and my breakout session focused on getting into the mind of your audience. If you want to learn more about my talk, “Stop Vacuum Strategies: How to Ask the Right Questions and Give your Audience a Seat at the Table,” please send me a note! I would love to connect and continue the conversations we started at HOW. I’m so grateful to Terri Trespicio and Amy Conover for bringing me in to share a different perspective on approaching design and creative marketing. And for our mighty team of speakers for your energy and support: Rachel Mae Zeolla, Kimberly Vandrilla, Jenn Lederer, Michelle Garside, Caroline Ceniza-Levine, Alexa Bishop.

The word itself isn’t new, but it blew up this summer on social media as a trend and a true language moment. To be demure is to be reserved, modest, and shy. The “demure craze” went viral with influencers, celebrities, and brands sharing videos with instructions on how to be demure and mindful in random and ridiculous situations. Thanks to Juan Pablo Gomez Serrano Serrano for sharing this one! What new language moments have you heard lately? We'd love to know - share below! https://lnkd.in/gVTetH8J #LanguageMoments #viralcontent #linguistics #trendingwords
