  • Governor Maura Healey signed legislation renaming Massachusetts Rehabilitation Commission to MassAbility. “This historic legislation represents the state’s commitment to propelling the disability movement forward,” said MassAbility Commissioner Toni Wolf. “Language has the power to shape people and culture, tackle stigmas, biases, and stereotypes. For too long, the words we’ve used have not reflected the strengths, resilience, and determination of the disability community. This legislation changes that. We are changing life in Massachusetts for the better, making it more equitable, accessible, and inclusive for people with disabilities.” Read the press release: https://lnkd.in/e7bzvNQ7 https://lnkd.in/efzJQ-sz

  • Agency Spotlight: MassHealth MassHealth is Massachusetts’ combined Medicaid and Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP). The agency provides robust health care coverage for qualifying children, families, seniors, and people with disabilities living in Massachusetts. Over 2 million people – more than a quarter of Massachusetts residents and about 40% of children in the state – are covered by MassHealth. Health care benefits may include doctor visits, dental, prescription drugs, behavioral health services, long term support, and other important health care services. September is National Assisted Living Week. MassHealth proudly serves eligible individuals who are 65+ and people who need long-term-care services across our state by providing comprehensive care, either at an assisted care facility or in their home. Members have even more access to the care they deserve with MyServices - an easy-to-use web tool and mobile app for all MassHealth members. With access to this portal, members can check if they qualify for MassHealth or the Massachusetts Health Connector, read enrollment information, get alerts about important events and actions, and review eligibility and voter registration notices. Members can also view and print a copy of their MassHealth ID card. Health equity, quality, and inclusion are core pillars of MassHealth’s mission. The agency strives to ensure programs are available for ALL to access no matter where they live in the state or the language they speak.

  • This month, we're thrilled to spotlight Jared Krok, an Intake Supervisor for MassHealth. Jared leads a dynamic team of 10 intake staff known for their efficiency and strong sense of camaraderie. Now in his fifth year in this role and with a decade of experience at EOHHS, Jared brings a wealth of knowledge and leadership to his role. His team is responsible for processing long-term care applications and general MassHealth coverage for the over-65 population—a group Jared recognizes as "critically important." Jared's exceptional leadership was highlighted by Yasmin Otero, Director of the Springfield MassHealth Enrollment Center (MEC), who nominated him for Spotlight. Yasmin describes Jared as "an all-around excellent supervisor with a high standard of timeliness, accuracy, and customer service." Jared's top priority is supporting his staff, guiding them through the intense demands of their work. He invests 4 to 6 months of daily training with new hires until they’re fully confident in their roles. Thanks to Jared's dedication and his team's hard work, their unit operates like a well-oiled machine. One of the things Jared loves most about his job is the variety—no two days are ever the same, keeping the work both challenging and engaging. Outside of work, Jared enjoys traveling and spending time outdoors with his wife of 23 years and their two pugs. A passionate Boston sports fan, Jared is known to keep his fingers crossed for good luck throughout entire games!
