  • “And I know it will be no surprise to any of you in this hall that achieving far beyond your mother's wildest dreams is what most of us have managed to do.” At the 2005 Massachusetts Conference for Women, former Governor of Texas Ann Richards captured the spirit of progress and empowerment that women have fought for over generations. The late Governor reminded us how far we've come—not just in terms of career and education, but in breaking through barriers our mothers and grandmothers could only dream of. She called upon the Conferences for Women community to look inward and continue to push our boundaries further. Richards also offered a timeless call to embrace ownership of our happiness and reject the notion that external circumstances or others determine our joy. “And I am here to tell you now that no one can make anyone else joyful or happy, but that person and that includes you. If you're sitting around telling yourself that if this happened, or if that happened, or if he just would, or if she hadn't said, whatever it is, I would feel better today, the only one in control of your feelings is you. So get over it. Give it up. And give yourself the comfort of knowing that for the rest of your life, you're gonna be the best company you have.” For 20 years, #MassWomen speakers like Governor Richards have shared stories of chasing dreams, working through challenges, and making change happen. There is #PowerInUnity, and the best way to forge forward is together. The 2024 Massachusetts Conference for Women is now sold out. If you missed out on tickets, we hope to see you at the 2025 National Conference for Women! The Conferences for Women community has spoken: 📣 #MentalHealth matters in the workplace. 📣 In fact, 97.63% of those we surveyed said health and well-being in the workplace were “extremely important” or “very important”. This first-annual 2024 Conferences for Women report, “Women and the Health & Well-being Gap in the Workplace,” is based on a survey of women’s opinions about health and well-being in the workplace conducted in February and March 2024. A total of 4,385 women responded to the survey. The vast majority of respondents identified as college-educated. Approximately 58% held positions ranging from middle management to the C-suite. Most said they were 30 years old or older. And 49 states were represented. Women were asked about how important health and well-being in the workplace are to them; how they think mental health impacts their job, and how their job impacts their mental health; how comfortable or uncomfortable they are discussing their mental health in the workplace; their perception of employers’ support for mental health and well-being; and the existence of mental health programs in the workplace, whether they use them, and their perceived effectiveness. In honor of #NationalWellnessMonth, read the full report here: https://bit.ly/3Apddxa

  • “How wonderful it would be to travel around the world, talking about your successes. My reality is that I travel around the world and I talk about the mistakes.” In 2011, former Olympic athlete Marion Jones spoke candidly to the Massachusetts Conference for Women about rebuilding trust with others, self-forgiveness, and moving forward through life with positive choices. “I've learned to make the most of second chances. At times, I know that many people may misinterpret this as not being contrite or remorseful. However, it's not that I'm trying to avoid my past. But I recognize that I can't go back and change those things. There's no delete button in my life. So the only real thing that I can do now is focus on the now and the future. So the only real thing that I can do now is ask myself, ‘what can I do today?’” What a powerful message about growth, and how—despite our biggest mistakes and failures—we still have worth. For 20 years, #MassWomen speakers like Marion Jones have shared stories of chasing dreams, working through challenges, and making change happen. There is #PowerInUnity, and the best way to forge forward is together. The 2024 Massachusetts Conference for Women is now sold out. • Academy Award-winning actress and advocate Marlee Matlin became deaf at 18 months old. Then one day, at around eight or nine, she was watching TV and noticed a deaf actor signing — or, as she put it, “speaking my language.” Immediately, she thought, “If she can do it, why can’t I?” Marlee spoke with us in 2022 about making your voice heard, not letting fear stand in your way, and the things she wished she knew sooner. Here's what she had to share: https://bit.ly/4bTqc7q

    • Bright yellow script text on a dark blue background reads "Make yourself heard," accompanied by small decorative blue, pink, and coral colored diamonds.
  • "Wonder Woman deserves a crew too." Happy birthday to the Rt. Honourable Dame Jacinda Ardern, who at last year's Massachusetts Conference for Women, reminded us we do not need to "do it all" on our own. Being our best self takes a community.
