The 2024-2025 school year is underway, and the CBA Lawyers in the Classroom (LIC) program is off to a great start! One of our first LIC visits took place at Aqsa School in Bridgeview, IL, a new partner school introduced through our collaboration with The Muslim Bar Association of Chicago (MBA). During this visit MBA LIC attorney volunteers, Wesam Shahed and Baseer Tajuddin, visited Ms. Meya Salah’s 8th grade class to teach our lesson titled “No Electronic Devices Allowed.” Wesam and Baseer began the lesson by discussing the importance of rules in society, guiding students to think critically about the intent and letter of laws. During the lesson, the students actively participated in civic dialogue, showcased their analytical skills, and even revised the law at the lesson's conclusion. Dania Ballout and Lena Kasi-Touleimat, also members of MBA and LIC attorney volunteers visited Ms. Ayah Arafat’s 5th grade students and taught our lesson titled, “Rose’s Sporting Goods.” Through the lesson Dania and Lena helped the students distinguish between cases that are heard in civil court and those in the criminal courts. We are grateful to Wesam, Baseer, Dania, Lena, Sara Suleiman, Novaira Paul, and Bakhtawar Mirajt, and our partnership with the Muslim Bar Association. We look forward to our ongoing collaboration this 2024-2025 school year and beyond! #lic #lawyersintheclassroom #civics #collaboration #cba
