This number has surged by 89% since 2020, driven by a desire for autonomy, flexibility, better health, and higher pay. - Independent by Choice: 61% of independents chose this path, with many reporting greater happiness and health. - Authenticity Matters: Independents find purpose and security beyond just a paycheck. - Side Gigs are Mainstream: 37% of traditional workers now have an independent side gig. - Encore Careers: Nearly half of retired workers are engaging as independents. - High-Earning Independents: The number of independents making $100k+ has risen sharply in 2024 to 4.7 million.
