  • The Rossmoor Pickleball Club from Walnut Creek shares its love of the game with students at El Dorado Middle School in Concord. "There are things we have in common," said Club President Carol Cerioni, who is a retired school psychologist. "We still like to play and have fun and laugh and so do they, and that’s always a good thing! The students get to see that older people are still kids at heart, especially the pickle-ballers! It enriches our lives because we have something we love to do, it’s physical, it gets us out of the house and it's social. And that's true at any age!" The volunteers, who include retired school teachers and a retired principal, hope to expand their program to another District middle school in the spring. Elementary School Counselor at Mt. Diablo Unified School District

Growing up my parents always placed a high value on my education, however they didn’t speak English well and often times I had to translate and help them as much as I could with explaining how the school system worked. Which was hard for little me. Hoy en día, siendo parte de Cafecito con Las Consejeras we were able to give a workshop at the Mt. Diablo Unified School District Parent Confrences on Familias y Los Sistemas Educativos. Estás charlas son importante because with our district having about 44% Latino students, it is important for our familias voices to be heard. And with language being an obstacle for my parents and many other parents, it is our responsibility to hold space for all families and all languages. Y lo asemos with building community and connection. I am happy to be able to do today, what little Marcie couldn’t do back then. 💚☕️
