    County staff had a wild ride at Employee Fest! From rollercoaster thrills to funnel cakes, it was a well-deserved break for the people who work tirelessly to make our community better. County Manager Dena Diorio was surprised with the best treat of all -- a key to Carowinds! A big thank you to each and every one of you AND to the team who makes employee fest happen every year!

    Without our poll workers, elections can't happen. A BIG shout out to these volunteers and the 15+ Board of Elections team members who train them! More than 3,000 poll workers are ready to help you cast your vote in the upcoming election. There are 195 precincts in the County and 33 early voting locations, which all require multiple poll worker positions. Early voting begins TODAY (Oct. 17)! Remember to bring your photo ID AND to thank a poll worker when you see them!

    Thank you to the many staff who are helping our residents near Mountain Island Lake recover from Hurricane Helene. The coordinated response led by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Emergency Management includes: - 200 building inspections by Storm Water Services staff. - More than 100 tons of tree debris collected by Solid Waste, Storm Water and Park & Recreation. - Code Enforcement estimates 84 properties were impacted. They're working with those homeowners on permitting. - Geospatial Information Services provided maps and damage reports that guided staff and helped with requesting federal disaster assistance. Several County recreation and nature centers will collect donations for those recovering from Helene in N.C. through Nov. 1: https://meck.co/40dykNI

    We're getting national attention for our workforce development efforts! Acting U.S. Secretary of Labor Julie A. Su visited the County's detention center to recognize training available for incarcerated residents. The Sheriff's Office provides opportunities to enhance job readiness, earn certifications and explore entrepreneurial ventures. Secretary Su received a tour and a briefing on these programs.
