Thank you for having Jonathan Hughes on the podcast - what a wonderful discussion!

🏞 The post-secondary landscape looked different back in the ‘80s.  🏫 For one, college was much more affordable. Also, that was the beginning of the college-for-all movement, so there was a decreasing emphasis on alternative postsecondary pathways—compared to today where the interest in other options is growing. 💹 So, the Massachusetts Education Financing Authority, which was created by the State Legislature in 1982, has had to adapt over the years to serve the changing needs of students. I sat down with Jonathan Hughes Associate Director of College Planning and Content Creation at MEFA, and learned about a few of the ways they’ve done that: 1️⃣ Launching MEFA Pathways, a free tool powered by FolderWave that allows students to explore careers, identify the right fit for them, and find work-based learning opportunities   2️⃣ Expanding from issuing a single public loan to offering multiple college savings plans for parents  3️⃣ Educating and guiding high school advising departments on post-secondary finance and planning  👇 Guidance counselors and parents of high schoolers, give the episode a listen at the link below, and share what tools you need to better support your students to successfully navigate the changing post-secondary landscape.

According to the recently conducted College Savings Indicator (CSI) Study, 47% of parents plan to finance the total cost of education with grants or scholarships. But most students will not receive a full scholarship. In fact, of all undergraduate students, only 0.1% received $25,000 or more in scholarships. Learn more about scholarship misconceptions and what families can do instead to prepare for college costs in our recent article.
