On Monday NASFAA submitted to the Department of Education its response to the department's request for comments on its Master Promissory Note (MPN) form. Our comments focused largely on the request to update the name of the form with terms that are more easily understood by borrowers as well as align with the term used for other paperwork that outlines a borrower's agreement to repay their loans. The Department of Education's announcement that institutional batch corrections will not be available for 2024-25 only adds to the already enormous workload placed on #FinancialAid offices caused by issues associated with ED's rollout of the 2024-25 #FAFSA. To help ease your burden, NASFAA is advocating 📢 for Congress to extend the #GainfulEmployment (GE) and #FinancialValueTransparency (FVT) reporting deadline — but we can't do it alone. 🆘 It is critical that your representatives hear from YOU about why an extension is necessary. To aid your outreach efforts, we compiled resources, including instructions on how to contact ☎️ 📧 your representatives, and a sample letter 📝 that can be customized with your information and used when you contact your representative: https://ow.ly/yXYk50SOmJU 🌟 Your advocacy makes a difference!

The Department of Education (ED) in a recent stakeholder call committed to providing applicants and contributors without Social Security Numbers (SSNs) with flexibility for the FSA ID process as a part of the 2025-26 #FAFSA form. The department shared that ED would continue to waive the manual identity validation process for applicants and contributors without a SSN, who will continue to manually enter their tax information for the upcoming cycle. During the 2024-25 FAFSA cycle many students were prevented from submitting their form when a contributor did not have an SSN and continued to run into glitches with the form.

As a part of June’s Advocacy Pipeline, NASFAA hosted three members – Emmilee Mitchell, FAAC® from Mercer University, Tarik Boyd M.S.Ed from Chattahoochee Technical College, and Melissa D. from Rhode Island School of Design – for meetings with congressional staffers from Georgia and Rhode Island. In their meetings on Capitol Hill, Emmilee, Tarik, and Melissa focused their advocacy on improvements to student loan system and robust funding for campus-based aid.
