  • We value the expertise, different experiences and ideas that every member of our team adds to our inclusive culture at Memorial Hermann. That's why we recognize Celebrate Diversity Month every August to honor all dimensions of diversity within our community. As part of this celebration, the Community Service Corps partnered with Women United for Equity Network (WUEN) Employee Resource Group for a day of volunteering at the Houston Food Bank. By giving back, these volunteers embody our commitment to creating healthier communities.

  • During Memorial Hermann’s Celebrate Diversity Month, we’re sharing insight into the work of our Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Champions. Claudia, manager, clinical projects at Memorial Hermann Greater Heights Hospital, has served as co-chair for her campus EDI group, driving Memorial Hermann’s commitment to creating an inclusive environment for all who enter our doors. In this role, she is responsible for assisting in the planning and implementation of campaigns and events and tasked with developing creative ideas to generate and maintain engagement on various EDI initiatives. "I believe a safe and caring environment supports improved patient outcomes," Claudia explains. Her role as an EDI Champion involves gathering feedback from staff and organizing educational initiatives to foster a more inclusive culture. One of Claudia's proudest accomplishments is the inaugural Celebrate Diversity Fair, which attracted hundreds of attendees and featured over 20 staff-run booths. "It was a wildly successful event that was both fun and educational," she says. Additionally, Claudia led an education and screening fair at the Acres Homes Community Center, where she and her team volunteered to serve the local community. "This work supports respect, trust, and compassion among our teams," Claudia shares. For her, EDI is about appreciating differences while celebrating shared values. "It helps us be better healthcare workers and create a better environment for our patients and community," she says. Through the hard work, dedication, and the innovation of our employees, Memorial Hermann’s commitment to EDI continues to grow and flourish.

Today, we welcome the inaugural class of Health Education and Leadership (HEAL) High School, a groundbreaking partnership between Memorial Hermann Health System and Aldine ISD, supported by a $31 million grant from Bloomberg Philanthropies. HEAL High School offers students a unique opportunity to receive a top-tier education while gaining hands-on experience in the healthcare field. “We are excited to open our doors and officially welcome the first class of HEAL High School,” said Dr. David Callender, president and CEO of Memorial Hermann. “This first-of-its-kind initiative is also helping address the gap in critical health care talent needs that exist today for nurses, technicians and more.” Memorial Hermann is committed to the long-term health of our community, and HEAL High School is an example of that commitment.
